Footballer of the year

Steve Gerrard has carried a whole team (ok, not quite Maradona levels) to Euro cup glory.

I've famously never been a great Lampard fan, but then I entirely accept this is me being irrational. I was never a Zidane fan for some inexplicable reason either.

Ronaldinho is simply in a class of his own at the mo though. Although let's not get carried away and start using words like "ever".

If you 'had to be picky' Stevie Gerrard would be number 1 being the captain of the 'European Champions'.

Is that award aimed to the european champion's capitan or to the best footballer of the year?

BTW, those who would wish Gerrard wining the award, he got 77 points less than ROnaldinho and only Wales and Feroe Island didn't give a point to Ronaldinho :!:

Hang on Silva. What rates higher winning La Liga or The Champions League? We all saw Barcs players throw there toys out of the pram when Chelsea beat them....

Ronaldino plays in a far superior team week in week out with Barca. So he has the time to do his flicks and show some flare.

I would like to see him play in the premiership, he can then really prove his so great. It is the best league in the world.....

Gerrard - The UNOFFICIAL Player of the Year 2005.

Don't get it wrong
First your arguments show you as a bad looser, and second my english is not good enough to have this kind of conversations, so if you want we can move to the spanish forum

Chill Son.

Just putting across my veiw and argument....I'm the winner 'cause Liverpool won the European Cup for the 5th time with Stevie Gerrard the winning captain.

Let me know when Ronaldino lifts the European Cup..

Yeah, and you please, email me when your gerrard get the fooballer of the year award...

And whilst everyone's raving over Ronny, just imagine what will /would happen if Henry (if he shows the for he had 2-3 years ago) was in the Barca side?

To be fair, I think that Ronaldinho is miles ahead of Gerard and is a very worthy winner.

An average Liverpool side produced a superb cup run to lift the European Cup but nobody seriously believes they are the best team in Europe. They're not even the best team in England ;)

Barca are looking like they might be the best team in Europe at the moment and Ronaldinho shines in that great team.

BBS - Miles ahead in which context?

Every context. Gerard isn't even the best midfielder in England.

Just because he was instrumental in winning you the European Cup, doesn't make him the best player in Europe.

That's my opinion and many (scousers) will disagree, so I'll leave it at that.

gerrard is too inconsistant, and lacks a certain level of fitness to even complete 2 games on the trot, unlike mr 160 games in a row.

besides, helps if he's got a manager who knows what he's doing.

Lampards better than Gerrard.

Ronaldinho was easily the best player in europe this year. He'll probably win the world player of the year too. The bloke is amazing.

Thank you (and Ross Williams), sensible words 8)
They keep saying how Gerrard carried the team, I seem to remember that last year Liverpool's record without Gerrard was better than it was without Xabi Alonso. Plus I remember a great Liverpool away performance at Juventus without Gerrard.

BBS, regarding Lampard and Xavi, I know we are going to argue about this  , but i sincerely dont think Lamprad is better than Xavi.. ok i'll rephrase it, I dont think Lampard could posibly do a better job than Xavi is doing in HIS barcelona position. I agree Lampard is much bigger threat going forward and will score many more goals, but Xavi (thankfully) has other players in the team to do that.

Maybe Chelsea rely on Lampards goals more heavily because of the lack of goals from Drogba + the wingers??

Karlos - Lampard was instrumental in Chelsea getting to the Champion's League semis PLUS they won a domestic cup and the Premiership. I think that easily trumps Gerard.

Ferd - I don't think Chelsea rely on Lampard's goals as much as Lampard is just a box-to-box midfield player who scores a lot. He doesn't have the skill of Ronaldinho (who does?) but his workrate is unbeatable. His position is also different from Xavi - probably better to compare Xavi (and lose) to Makalele, perhaps. But I definitely wouldn't rate Xavi or foul-and-dive Deco (who, despite his shortcomings, I like as a player) as highly as Lampard.
