FLTs Transport Advice Needed!!!

Dear Fancy London Towners, coming down to London for Turnmills in a few weeks, we've been offered a place to kip in Blackheath. How far out is that? :?

We are wondering whether to drive into the city or get train/tube etc? Or to just sod it and pay for a hotel.

No idea about getting around London at all!

Any constructive advice appreciated

Hi Red

Blackheath isn't on an underground line so your best option if you want to do public transport is to get an overground train from Blackheath to London Bridge and then from London Bridge get the Thameslink to Farringdon (which is closest station to Turnmills, less than 5 mins walk). If you get your connections right I'd say that journey will only take about 30-40 mins.

Farringdon station does have the Circle/Metropolitan/Hammersmith & City tube lines if you wanted to get the tube for the last part of the journey but that will take forever.

There's a travelodge in Farringdon if you wanted to get a hotel on the cheap.

Turnmills closes at 7am at the earliest so by that time trains will be starting running so getting home won't be that much hassle.

I'm not sure how much a taxi from Blackheath would be cos I don't really know that area.

Hope that helps.

Use the journey planner on the right side of this page:

Blackheath to Farringdon about 40 mins but you need to use the advanced options to make sure it runs when you need.

If you're gonna be about on the Sunday daytime, Blackheath is nice for a lunch and/or afternoon pint.

Or as Babs says the Travelodge isn't far from Turnmills....

Hmmm.....Babs covered most of what I said already.

 Yes but you put it so much more eloquently than me Mr B  ;)

As babs said Blackheath is about 15mins out of lon bridge station, although you can stay on the train and alight at waterloo east or charing cross, however lon bridge is best for turnmills. About blackheath though....lovely place, gets it's name from the heath which is where a lot of the plague victims were buried in mass graves, also home to some nice bars & restaurants, like "chapter 2" which is glen tilbrook (of squeeze fame) fave restaurant, and also where i will be "popping the question" on valentines night........nb you cant get a mobile phone signal in blackheath....anyway...i digress

Thanks everyone! :D I think we're going to stay at a hotel now - Malmaison, i think its nearby enough to walk to Turnmills :? I just CANNOT be bothered with public transport.

What's the area like around Turnmills? Are there any decent bars?

Yeah there's quite a few nice bars found Farringdon/Clerkenwell etc. Match and Ember are both nice and only a couple of mins from Turnmills.
