First timers- Dip our toes or dive right in?

Hi,

A pair of old farts coming to the island for the first time in September, meant to come last year but 2 weeks beforehand my husband was hospitalised and had to have surgery, just shows you what a selfish bloke he is! ;).
I have an idea of where we might go clubbing according to my husbands tastes but I'm seriously struggling with how we organize ourselves. esp transport and having a pretty limited budget once the outrageous ticket and drink prices are factored in. We'll visit Space and Pacha but we're stopping in S.A.Bay 16-28th Sep.
Any ideas about easy transport or the best way of doing it?

Also would love to go on a boat party but at 51 and 38 I've pretty much ruled it out as they'll be full of kids, apologies in advance to the 'youngsters' on here but I doubt you'd want to see me and my man pukka up!. Are there any boat parties out there for an older, music appreciating crowd? or am I just being a lightweight?
Also Mr old fart has asked me to look at Ushuaia (sp?). A good venue before space, instead of space or best avoided altogether?

Sorry if this is asking the same questions you've been asked a million times over.

Ta folks!

Hi!

Firstly, 'old fart' is a bit harsh! My Dad is around the same age and I always tell him he would LOVE Ibiza, I think you will be very surprised at the clientèle.

I was very surprised to see that, especially in the bigger clubs, 'older' clubbers were in abundance and gave us younger gang a run for our money! Especially in Pacha, too.

You will pay ridiculous prices to get into clubs, but all I can say is, it's totally worth it. I found that sometimes I could get away without having a drink, or rather not getting drunk, as the atmosphere and general feel of being out over in Ibiza makes you literally 'high on life'. (What a cliché huh?!) I have said it time and time again, the place is Euphoric and if you spend a bit of money, you will be a little unsure at first because the prices are so steep, but you will be so glad you did.

Places like Space etc are out the way of San An, 20 euro in a taxi to Pacha each way, but you can get deals where you dive on a coach and it's all included. Ushuaia is just beyond gorgeous and quite simply a 'must', Plastik are opening a beach bar next door this season, so it's a nice area to go out and get away from the madness of San An. I don't rate the West End at all, apart from Plastik and Hed Kandi and Itaca, possibly one or two on the beach front, but the actual west end is a bit of a dive and dull of your typical drunken Brits abroad. FINE if you like that kind of thing, but it's not for me. Don't write me off as a snob, I've more than done it myself.

I personally think that if you are going to go to Ibiza, regardless of age, JUMP IN! These are people who you probably won't ever see again, and if you're having a good time, so what if people think you are older than the usual people who go. Everybody is out for a good time there, and you'd probably be welcomed with open arms BECAUSE you are older and are still having a good go. For me, as I hail from Liverpool, Garlands boat is just a must do, you will love it, trust me.

xxx

Your not too old I go to space and all the other clubs. You will see people 18-80. Jump right in and enjoy.

Hi hubby and I are in the old farts brigade as well, being nearly 50 ish, and we LOVE Ibiza, we,re in San An from 8-22nd September,
but hubby is more into Iron maiden type of music, and music of that era, but we go to Pink panther ,Buccaneros, but hubbys favourite hangout is Penguin bar,who only play heavy metal music,
we did the little clubs !! Eden and Es paradis, last year, which was ok,
Id be surprised if you dont love the island, its a beautiful place, and if you want veg out on the beach time, there are LOADS of buses that go to different beaches that leave from San An bus station, and public transport in Ibiza is VERY cheap,

just a little tip, if you do decide to get buses from San An, you buy the bus tickets inside the bus station before you can get on the bus, x

You're not too old for anywhere you feel like going in Ibiza ! My husband and I are 46 and we go wherever the music takes us - so far I've never felt uncomfortable anywhere on the island due to age... Have a great time !

Don't be worrying about being old farts, me and the wife are of a similar age and we've been going for 11 years straight. We don't do the clubs as much as we used to now but we've done them all in the past and Space and Pacha definately should be on your list, but make sure you pick your night as the music/vibe varies considerably from night to night. The Discobus will get you to the clubs ok but I suggest you budget for taxis as a contingency in case you need them.

If you're in San An you might want to check on what's happening at Eden or Es Paradis; they often get a bad press but we've not had a bad night in either and have had very friendly crowds.

We've done the boat parties too but they tend to be a bit raucous with no means of escape, so we leave that to the kids these days, preferring the more chilled vibe of Cafe Del Mar and the strip. Kumharas in the bay is a must if you're looking for a serious chill out.

I'm sure you'll both love it and will want to go back!

Your not old farts by any sense of the imagination!

My mums 46 and has never been in a nightclub!!!! I might get you to have words with her :p

Its so funny reading how many 'old farts' there is.. i ve just turned 40 and the wife and i have been 14 times now.. we always go june or september cos its a bit more mellow so you've picked a decent time to experience it for the first time..

As someone said eden is sound to visit especially judgement sunday.. cream to me is a must!! amnesia is one of the best clubs in the world... space was much better with the open terrace..

Regarding the price of alcohol in clubs, get bevvied before hand... hahaha

The main thing though is remember everyone's there to have a good time, just like you!!! No one cares!!
There is such a good vibe about the place... you cant explain until you go and once you've been you'll want to go back...

BEST PLACE ON EARTH!! ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'VE LEFT THE KIDS AT HOME......

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Glad to hear we're not the only mature clubbers heading to Ibiza this summer. Pacha looks a little remote from anywhere really. How do you guys play it when going there? Are there any preclub bars nearby?

I usually have a drink in the hotel before I go, it is on it's own, as are all the big clubs, really.

I suppose there may be something in Ibiza Town were Pacha is, but I've never tried!

Trust me your never to old in Ibiza it's a place like no other. Ok so San An the strip might not be what your looking for but that's easy to miss out.

Others have said what I would have but it's just not an island for specific age groups. All the clubs have ages from 18-60, i'm not kidding (Pun lol)! :D. Its all about the love Ibiza if you have that then that's all that matters...

Pacha isn't that remote compared to Amnesia or Privilege. There will be bars near there. I remember a proper spanish type bar (no music) just down the road a bit, not sure if its still there. Definitely worth drinking in a bar before going in, if you can't have a drink in the hotel you're staying.

This is the correct shout TBH I get to the clubs about 1.30/2.00am that's still 5.30mins of clubbing, I drink during the day beach bars etc, sleep around 9/11pm then start drinking in the hotel room with drinks I brought at the local stores, I normally buy 2/3 drinks in the clubs that's it honest so i only spend about 60 euro's on drinks per night cheaper if I drink beer. :D

Pacha is perfectly located. A few drinks around Ibiza town (brilliant vibe), then a fabulous walk around the harbour to reach your destination.

As said many times before, book yourself a table at Pacha Restaurant for late evening. Make a proper night of it, drinks, dinner, more drinks, club, dance. Its the best way to do Pacha unless of course you can get on a guestlist?

Ta for all the useful info guys, brilliant. Not sure if finances will stretch to eating at Pacha but I'll def look in to it,. nice idea. I think we will go to the West End at some point but more to feed our sense of amused curiosity and see what all the kids get up to.

If you plan on going to Pacha anyway it doesn't make sense NOT to eat there first, you get free entry to the club which is usually around 50 euros anyway... They say there is a minimum spend at the restaurant, but to be honest as long as you don't take the p*ss and order water and a salad they never enforce it. In fact last year we just ate a main course and had lots of drinks (cheaper than inside the club) you can also take your drinks through to the club so you can stock up before you go in! I think between 5 of us we only spent about 400 euros in total.

Don't tell anyone about this though it's a closely guarded spotlight secret ;)
