First Ibiza Experience

Our first ever trip to Ibiza was September 13-25. My girlfriend and I arrived for our first three days in San Antonio at 3.30 AM, stored our luggage and descended on the West End’s strip. I was expecting a war zone and that’s pretty much what it was! The West End is a complete assault on the senses but definitely a worthwhile experience for Es Reco D’Angel alone. The Guy is a legend and mixes a pretty nifty mojito. After hearing so many people bemoaning the commercialisation of the Sunset Strip I wasn’t sure what to expect. I can only say that after waiting so many years to come, seeing that sunset was a genuinely unforgettable experience. Had a fantastic meal at Sun Sea Bar with great cocktails, the friendliest staff ever, beautiful views and incredible fire artists to see. San Antonio gets a bad press but I am glad we started our holiday there with good restaurants to be found, the famous bars not disappointing and much fun to be had. I would not hesitate to go back to San Antonio for a few days.

So after three days we hopped in a cab for Playa D’en Bossa. Oh my god – first impressions were that it was a dump but we approached it with a positive attitude as it was only a base for visiting Ibiza Town. I thought PDB was in a much worse state than San An and found it pretty unfriendly. I had one meal there the whole 10 days and that was a Keebab on our last night! I could literally find nowhere to eat but we kind of expected this. We found the resort a bit seedy and although I expected a strong contingent of pill heads I was usually happy to be heading towards Ibiza Town most nights in the opposite direction from the drugs dealers and casualties. I am a man of the world and maybe it was being with the misses that made me feel slightly uncomfortable in PDB. I can’t really see the appeal of the place unless you go to Space alot as Bora Bora was pretty poor in my opinion.

On to the good stuff – Salinas. One of the main reasons for basing in PDB was access to Salinas and Es Cavallet beaches. We could walk up to San Jordi and jump on el numero doce which was easy. What a great beach, I loved it and Sa Trinxa bar is the best bar in the world. I can’t tell you how much we enjoyed eating there, drinking Sangria, people watching, dancing. The staff were great but I couldn’t actually tell you if Jon Sa Trincha was playing cos I was so hammered most days we went. We also walked to Es Cavallet through the sand dunes via the watch tower and cruising grounds and this was another amazing beach. I will go back to Salinas again and again and maybe stay in the hotel behind the beach.

Ibiza town is amazing, Se Penya again amazing and nice not to be completely surrounded by English people. We spent most of out time eating and drinking pretty hard and went to Pacha a couple of times. We saw Bassment Jaxx and met people from Iceland, Finland, Holland and Spain which was cool. Il Pirata is a great bar amongst numerous others but I cannot remember the names. The walk up to Dalt Villa is something every person should do for the view from under church alone. Cant remember many names of restaurants but we had only one bad meal the whole time. Ancient people is cool on the main road into Ibiza Town, had a lock in there talking to the owner and staff about the island and food. Formentera was good – not quite as I expected but the most amazing (and busy) beaches I have seen.

Things I missed out on; hiring a car to see the north etc, going to see Es Vedra, going to Atlantis, doing more clubs and eating in Dalt Villa. I can honestly say I have never missed a place as much as I do Ibiza. It is different to any other place I have been. There are probably better beaches in Greece and maybe nicer scenery in Italy so it must be to do with the people and the history. I found the Ibicenco people and generally all workers there to be some of the nicest I have ever met. They were friendly, so chilled out and intelligent. I have probably forgotten more stuff than I’ve described but to round this review off I am undoubtedly another Ibiza convert.

Great review.

It really is amazing the number of people write with these sentiments regarding Ibiza

My Wife and I often say the same thing, if we think about it there are lots of things we don't particularly like about Ibiza, but it just has that certain.....something.
