first dead of season 2007 :-( rip

i was trying to say that with drugs the only pleasure is the intoxication. there is no pleasure involved in snorting powder up your nose or dropping an e - you do it because you want to become intoxicated. drink however is a different proposition and i do accept that there are alcohol abusers as well as drug abusers.

the advantage i have is that because the alcohol industry is highly regulated that i can gauge that two glasses of wine will satisfy my needs for an evening. as has been pointed out previously, you could be buying any old chemicals from some dealer outside a club.

my opinion on the age group of bingers was based purely on personal observation. i'm sure that there are exceptions to what i've seen.

The oral ingestion of alcohol is typically a lot more pleasant that, say, biting a pill in half.

8O

However there are pleasures associated with other drug use that have nothing to do with intoxication - numb gums, pre-ingestion excitement, visual appreciation of a tulip-shaped tab, the taste and smell of certain types of marijuana etc. The difference in the pleasure of the alcohol experience and other drugs is a matter of degree, not kind.

And at the end of the day, 90% of the fun of drinking is intoxication. How many regular drinkers would buy alcohol-free wine?

Despite your pretentions stephen you are drug user, same as all the other ones.

;)

pathetic.

Why's it pathetic?

(1) Most drinkers I know expect some sort of "buzz" when drinking alcohol, even if it's just a slight relaxation. (I know I do!)

(2) What is wrong with altering your state? I know weed smokers who'll dissect the taste of what they're smoking, along with the type of "high" it gives (which doesn't mean they get completely ****** everytime they light up).

I should say that I consider myself just a drinker these days, not that I was ever a huge user of illegals anyway. Why the need to be judgemental?

pathetic.
How so?

Maybe your inability to provide a reasoned response is due to over indulgence in your chosen drug last night?

Maybe your years of drug use have reduced your ability to participate in a reasoned debate?

Your decision not to relate to your fellow drug users, i.e. 98% of the population, and your misplaced sense of superiority is far more far more pathetic than an appreciation of the wider world of drug use.

:D:D

Parallels with wine appreciation abound!

pathetic.

Well tulip shaped cabs , cuddles and conversations about nothingness are much more harmless and pleasurable than the statistical binge effects of drinking.

...and a cheeky half can be viewed as being like a nice glass of wine.

My mum is a caffeine addict and she looks down on everyone who drinks more than two glasses of wine (poss because her brother is an alcoholic but who knows). Her view is no different to yours (with the exception of the legalities involved).

Sounds like the common "Anybody who takes more drugs than me is an addict and anybody who takes less is a lightweight" attitude.
