FIBA World Championship '06

Im not an expert in this but arent there also loads of changes between the FIBA rules which the whole world uses, and then the NBA rules, arent there? Trust the yanks to make up their own laws :p ;)

Oooh, 1st semifinal latest score:

Greece 45 - 40 USA.

Its going to be tight, maybe a shock on the cards

Yes, I'm not sure which ones and I'm not sure I can't explain it in english, but I remember sawing a game at the Madison Square Garden and being confused half of the time

Maybe Morbyd can explain it ;)

Ferd, the times of the periods (cuartos) are longer
Also I'm not sure if personal faults are the same here and there, and the same with "pasos".
I'll ask Pep ;)

I think it's time for the americans to addmit that basketball nowadays it's Europe (and that's why they have more and more foreing players at the NBA)

Right... make up their own rules... in a game they invented! :spank:

Yeah but you still play with different rules to the rest of the world.
Anyway Morbyd, ive done my research and found this guy trying to excuse why the Americans might struggle ;)

"The NBA players are not as effective in International play for a bevy of reasons. FIBA has 40 minute games compared to the 48 minute games making the USA depth less important and making it easier for upsets to occur. Further the lane under the basket under FIBA rules is huge and trapezoidal, making it more difficult for the big strong NBA frontcourt players to be effective (offensive 3 second violations but no defensive 3 seconds, no limits on zone defense), the FIBA 3 point line is 4 feet shorter than the NBA line and is a shot that is rarely taken in the NBA.

Additionally, it's a different ball in FIBA small, slick, and bouncy. The non-NBA players shoot with that ball since they're children, the NBA players are used to a much different feel. The international court is smaller, negating athletic advantages of NBA players. Another rule is that you are allowed to slap the ball out from over the cylinder under FIBA rules, something which in America is considered goaltending even at the youngest levels.

Furthermore, even the rules that are the same in both systems are called differently. You're allowed to be more physical defensively in the NBA, but everything is called under FIBA rules. On top of that the Euro refs are not exactly fond of NBA players regardless of nationality."

101-95. US out of the tournament.

Would be interesting if the Greeks ended up World Champions in basketball alongside being European champions in football.

Now I hope Spain wins!

Spain started of very badly, we were 11 - 1 down, but we're now winning 40 - 38 at the end of the 2nd quarter!!

As they ended up European Champion football.

Spain has a better game

A rose for Spain; the best group, MVP Gasol, even injured and more than 20 pts gap on the final scoring board.
A cactus to the US team (Sorry Morbyd): disrespectful not attending the final ceremony. Should be called the shame team.

Please salute the world champions :D

Qué? 8O 8O 8O

(thanks! did you see it?)

I was suggesting, that like the Italians singing the White Stripes song months after the world cup that you countrymen could do similar post basketball triumph.

Didn´t see it but have seen a couple of Spanish kids celebrating8)

Im so happy its unbelievable, a proper team performance. Shows that Spain isnt just Gasol.
Navarro and Garbajosa were amazing. Its even more touching when you consider the coach's father had passed away the night before to the final.
