Favourite restaurant ever ?

The most delicious food I've ever had from a restaurant was from Ludvig's Bistro in Sitka, Alaska.

I was at an event they catered and they had white salmon fillets with a breaded crust on top, amazing Caesar salad with fresh Parmesan, humongous sea scallops wrapped in bacon, and other amazing treats...

Hope to make it back there some day!

Edit: I just looked at their website and saw the menu for this week... I might have to make a special trip!

In Europe it has to be Il Buco in Sorrento, a michelen star resturant which would put alot of uk ones to shame, balanced menu, cracking service and its in Italy.......for me the home of good good food wherever you go.

In the UK local ones to me, Bruno's in Cambridge, Midsummer House in Cambridge and The Cock in the village next to where I live (best Sausage and Mash on the planet, fact!) rate as my favourites!

I beg to differ on one point and completely agree with another. On one hand, many people have commented on my sausage and mash as being the best ever.....on the other, I completely believe that you frequent the cock ;)

Undoubtedly it has to be Galini Restaurant in Koutouloufari, Crete in Greece, superb, never had food like it, Greek Tavernas are by far and away the best places to eat anywhere IMO, me and the ex agreed this place was top class and one of the best places we've ever eaten when we were there in 2004 ,you only have to check the reviews http://www.explorecrete.com/reviews/restaurants/koutouloufari-galini.html

Outside Europe well Dubai has some amazing Restaurants but for the worlds finest cuisine you simply cannot beat The Le Meridien Hotel Dubai Airport,15 top class Restaurants and ive eaten in 5 of them 8) hard to say what's the best they are all so amazing

In Ireland it would have to be The Hibernian Restaurant in City West Hotel, top class food (top class price as well)http://www.citywesthotel.com/site/restaurantsbars_hibernian.aspx

must also give a mention to the best Tapas in Ireland

for sushi you can't beat nobu & blowfish, the latter has some amazing inventive stuff. they have a restaurant in san fran, la and auckland.

in london ramsays' maze is great as is asia de cuba in st martin's lane. we stayed recently in the mondrian in scottsdale and turned out they also had an asia de cuba restaurant... bliss :p

there's a lovely restaurant called pure in the taj in mumbai, and i also love iggy's in singapore and cilantro in kuala lumpur.

My mum was a great cook, in the way that all mums are! so if she was to say my sausage n mash was the best in the world, thats good enough for me.

London has so many excellent restaurants, a few come to mind:
Mirabel
Daphnes
The Wolsey
Chez Bruce
Royal Hospital Rd
Aubergine.
I wont go on!!

dont be silly, even under the circumstances it wasn't a nasty comment. I know you aren't like that, and to be fair, I did ask for it ;)

I couldn't even choose the best meal I've ever eaten. What would I base it on? The best food I've ever eaten? The best atmosphere? Most fanciest? Best value for money?

I've eaten at some beachside huts in Asia where you can get fish caught 10mins beforehand, freshly BBQ'd to your exact tastes in front of you, served up with fresh salad and rice whilst you sit on the sand underneath the stars...

OR

I've eaten in fancy London restaurants, serving the best food, immaculately prepared, in beautiful surroundings in a great buzzing restaurant.

I just couldn't choose! :p

All I know is that I love good food, be it a meal costing £2 or a meal costing £200

bI agree the best food I would say. Where you bite into something and think "wow"

eg, the smoked haddock fishcakes I had in the wolsey. The filet steak with foie gras & truffle I had at table d'anvers in paris, the freshly caught sardines i saw gutted then bbq'd on the beach in spain this year, just bloody lovely food.................im getting hungry now!
