Es Vive taking the mickey

Fair enough, Drew.

I'm actually staying in the Es Vive area this year (Sirenis Jabeque apartments) so I may well check out the Es Vive Hotel to see if it tickles my fancy.

It is a lot of money and if the AC is going off at night, I wouldn't expect that sort of thing anywhere, let alone at an expensive hotel.

The AC never went off for us, only the electric for an hour or so, which is expected in Ibiza.

Villas are great, but we do like some privacy ;) and although its nice to be with all your friends its also nice to be around strangers and people watch etc.

The one thing you don't get in a villa is all the geezers, wannabes, ex city boys trying to be balearic, pumped up semi-gangsters, barries on the sniff, and the like.

Of course if you want to hang out with those sort of people you can invite them up to hang out by the pool. At Es Vive there is no escape - these people own the place!

Recommend anywhere better offering all the above?

Errrrr yes - your own private villa ...

No Kids
Food - if you say so
Fantastic 24 hour bar with good music and ;) at all times
Nice Pool Area

Must be the same price as a week at Es Vive....

I have to second this - private villa is definitely the best way to go imo, especially if you can get quite a few mates together. Last year we stayed in a big 10 bed villa and it was the absolute bollox - superb pool with views to formentera, tennis court, tabletennis, little footy pitch, BBQ. It was on the coast not far from Jesus and there weren't many neighbours about so the music was pumping day and night

This year there are less of us but we've managed to find a three bed hillside villa on the west coast with sunset views, pool etc.

It's well worth looking into - I won't be going back to hotels now apart from the odd day at either end of the villa week to extend the holiday. As for the walking distance thing, it's a non-issue for us, there's usually someone up for driving or else we just get cabs. Anyway, it's so nice to be in the middle of nowhere during the more 'restful' periods of the holiday - there's nothing like the stillness of the night after sunset, a few drinks and a smoke with your friends by the pool....ahhhhhh! :D

Each to their own of course, but do the maths:

Our 3 bed villa with all it offers is 2,650 euros for 7 nights in mid-august. 3 double rooms in Es Vive is 3,150 for 7 nights, or 3,927 with sea views. So not only is it cheaper, but I think it's more fun in your own place - you can do whatever you like (picture the scenes of poolside indulgence), invite anyone you like back and even bring extra mates over from home at the drop of the hat - there's always a sunlounger or sofa to kip on once the rooms are full.
:D :D :D :D

Which resort you near this year Sunny D? We're near Port des Torrent

the nearest big resort is San An, but the villa is in a very quiet spot on the peninsula that continues on from San An bay. The sunsets should be superb from our terrace.

Can't wait!

Or some super cool folk like us, Barbie/TMT, Kang/BBS, Cookie etc etc.

:P

we're in the villa 21st-28th August but will stay on a few days afterwards in a hotel in order to do a second we love sundays, dc10 etc.

haven't booked a hotel yet, still debating whether to splurge on some luxury at Pikes or the Hacienda.....the es vive was on the list but I don't like the sound of small rooms, dodgy aircon etc...might still consider it though.

- we are there 9 July for 2 weeks also in the same boat - villa available from 10th so we need a hotel for 9th for one night.... I usually wait until a week or so before before I book something....

Me and Jamie certainly don't fall into the super cool category

Personally I would prefer to stay in villa than most hotels but the reason we never do is cos I shouldn't be on the road in England let alone abroad and even Tom never fancies driving in Ibiza, he'd rather just get there and get funked without knowing that he's got to drive all the time at the back of his mind.

So that's why Es Vive or El Hotel this year does the job for us :D

And as evidence that driving is not a good idea.....

we hired a villa 2 years ago and crashed the car within 2 hours 8O

i thought this would be a problem before we set off last year but it didn't even cross our minds to be honest. we always seemed to get where we were going one way or the other and it's cool to have the cars during the day for exploration, shopping, beach trips etc.

You haven't seen my driving skills 8O  I wouldn't trust myself to drive day or night :? I'd be ok as long as I was on a straight road but then as soon as I came to a roundabout I'd just get out of the run and do a runner

yeah it can be a bit dodgy. I've had a few of those moments where you pull out and then after you've pulled out you remember you were looking the wrong way for oncoming traffic. Not good at all.

The other drivers are the biggest problem though. Last year we were waiting at a pedestrian crossing in the main centre bit of PDB when a little Peugeot came round the corner behind us and just drove straight into the back of our car for no apparent reason.

Obviously, I got out to go and speak to the person but they wouldn't even get out of their car! It was a spanish car and the woman inside just sat there and shrugged her shoulders as if this was nothing for me to worry about!

it was quite funny though....

If you've ever been on the nightmare road over to Cala d'Hor you'll have noticed the near-vertical cliffs which don't have any safety barriers. Quite scary, but we decided to play a game in the form of how many crashed cars were at the bottom. Lost count.

I was on it last summer -- tight turns, sharp drops -- but a very scenic ride.

that's a great road, cool views, an interesting quarry if i remember rightly, hairpin bends and a good bit of off-road if you're heading for Es Boldado.

nice driving - i love it, much like the alpine routes through europe.

it's not a safety issue at all as far as i'm concerned as long as you're a confident driver. The worry for me when driving on holiday, as mentioned, is lapses of concentration at junctions, particularly left turns where you cross the traffic. I think i have it sussed though now with a little mirror/signal/manouvre type routine that i do when driving on the right.
