Has anyone heard a Morillo set recently or even in the past year or so?

Tempted to go check him out on June 21st, had some brilliant nights at the Subliminal gigs but that was a long time ago. Any info on what his sets are like these days welcome.

Saw him around 6 months back at Output in Nyc, his sound has kind of evolved a bit but he still has that same flare to his style and knows how to move a room, I would've loved to catch him at Space and I think that will be a good one to take a little bit of crowding away from the terraza that night

He went down that commercial route and I find it difficult to have the same level of respect as I did before. Subliminal nights at Pacha were something special.

That is my concern also, the last time I saw him I'd say it was the commercial route. One of my favourite memories is Morillo at the end of the night over the mic saying 'Sven Vath in the house' and saying how they were going to pay the police so they could continue you on for another hour or so. The Sven reference being in relation to his particularly dark tech set that particular night.

I'll be in PDB for the rumours @ beach house gig that night anyway, a decision on Viva Warriors or Vagabundos will have to be made.

he's left the commercial stuff and back at the kind of stuff that he made his name on. He's even referenced in recent interviews he 'lost his way' a bit, both musically and with the partying.

if you like the old Morillo you'd like him now.

From his website

Subliminal Records is back. Yes, you read that right: the super-influential New York house and tech imprint is returning after a hiatus with some serious bang for your buck. And the pioneering label boss Erick Morillo couldn’t be more thrilled by what he has up his sleeve for summer 2015. “It’s going to be great music from house to techno – a little bit of everything,” he says. “We’re going to be releasing lots of records from different people of course, including the first release which is Erick Morillo feat. Harry Romero, called ‘The Restorer’. “I connected once again with the person who helped me launch the label back in 1997, so it’s fitting.”

Erick has several original productions and key collaborations in the works too, including ‘Something For Carl Cox’, a fun techno jam that Erick made for, well, guess who and another solo track called ‘Going To LA’. Additionally, there’s another new club track featuring Antranig called ‘It Ain’t Much’. But the biggest of the new material will be ‘Right Now’, an A-List collaboration with Hot Natured head honcho Jamie Jones. He’s putting the finishing touches to that one as we speak.

The other big news is that Subliminal will be working with some of the most cutting-edge producers in electronic music to remix the cream of the classic Subliminal catalogue. Says Erick: “I’m super-excited to be working with some of the best remixers in the industry to bring our classics to the new generation!”

“In the past, we sometimes went for quantity as much as quality but now we’re only focusing on quality releases, whatever the genre,” adds Erick. “This time, I can promise you that all our output will be ridiculous. House records with good drops don’t seem to exist any more – its either deep house, progressive house or tech house and I want to bring that real house back – to where it used to be.” Stay tuned.

Hi everyone.

I've seen him play twice at Ministry in the last 8 months and both times he played from start to finish. Really enjoyed both parties.

He plays really dark and techy these days. There is the odd acapella thrown in from the Subliminal back catalogue and a couple of anthems here and there but I would say his music is much more credible than it was 3 years ago when he was going down the EDM route.

Recommended.

If the old Morillo is really back, then that all night long on 20 September looks good! On second thoughts it's Sven & Solomun at Pacha that night...... so maybe not.....

the very first we love I attended back in 2004 was with morillo - he first played on the old open air space terrace in the late afternoon (a very housey set, I remember it well) and then he played again in the discoteca later that night - a much harder set of course, very tribal.

aaaaaaaaah the memories :)

Yeah it's good. Everyone loves a comeback. What he became towards those last years at Pacha was a joke. The best thing that ever happened to him (in the long run) was Pacha dropping him after 2012. He seems to be back to his roots.

I'm up for his gig on the 26th July at Space, that'll be perfect to roll over to after the Clockwork Orange knees up at Nasau beach club

was looking on el row Saturday but seeing as it is Space Birthday on the 26th i might fancy the Sunday instead... will that still be a vagabundos party or something bigger?

Last year (25th anniversary) they had the car Park open and a great big line up. If it worked well, i think they will make a bigger thing! I also think this year end of july The irsland is Full like a normal August.
