Egg London - shooting

Not sure why I'm defending New York... not my city! But it is all about perceptions. Grego's got a good point there too about the hightened police presence over the past decade. NYC is statistically one of the safest metropolis-size cities in the world.

Granted i suppose. ;)

My point by bringing up Canada is just that it would oversimplify things to say that more guns = more crime. There's a lot more to it.

There are other factors, but if the guns aren't accessible in the first place then the crime can't be committed. Which is perhaps why a lot of knive crimes are committed in this country.

There are always exceptions such as Canada and Switzerland. But they have nothing to do with the point i am attempting to make.

The point I'm making is that I believe the UK would be just as bad as the US if guns were as readily available.

You seem to suspect everyone is anti american, which I'm not.

I think everyone is a dick

It is on the back of a motorbike with those bendy buses   going at you. Joking aside, I find all of London very safe but that's probably because it's where I come from. I also felt very safe in New York and I didn't just keep to the nice parts of town.

Point taken. And no, I didn't have you pegged as anti-American. ;)

The US, like every country, has equal parts good and bad. You appreciate that even more when you live overseas for a while. Problems with gun crime is definitely one of the bad things. But it's often not as bad as the perception abroad. That's where I'm coming from...

I used to live in Shadwell and it was really dangerous! My flatmate got put in hospital after some of the local kids too a dislike to him and hit him with a lead pipe across the skull. I had a similar experience but luckily they missed my head when they threw an iron bar at it. The police admitted not patrolling at night because it was too dangerous. As a major city, London's probably relatively ok, but there's definitely unsafe areas in every city.

Blimey 8O that's pretty scary! Where you are now must seem like deepest darkest Surrey compared to Shadwell

Statement for immediate release to Press.
14th August 2006.

First and foremost, all the management and staff at Egg London would like to send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, Mr. Zaiden.

The incident occurred during a one off private party that was held away from the main body of the club. The main club night held on Friday was not affected by the incident. The function room is hired out privately, has its own entrance and its own separate security.

We are all deeply shocked and horrified that such an incident should take place on the premises and would like to assure all those concerned that we will be co-operating fully with the Police and other authorities during their investigations, it is inappropriate for us to comment further.

Issued on behalf of the management and staff of Egg, London.

:) :) security:) :)

I've just spoken to a friend at work that went not last weekend but the one before with his girlfriend. They arrived a bit before 5a.m. on Sunday morning so had to mix a bit with the last of the Saturday night crowd before the night changed over. He said they had a nightmare with girl on door to get in like some of my friends did a few months back - she seems to p*ssing off most people from what I gather. It seems decent enough people are getting a no and are being asked silly questions on entering, i.e. do you know what polysexual means   WTF???

Anyway, he said that the crowd was dreadful and extremely hostile and there were lots of dodgey guys on their own in there hitting on his girlfriend when it was obvious they were together (I've had this happen first hand in there and it's not very nice). He said he won't be going back any time soon and used to go there quite a bit.

I used to love Egg as an afterparty on a Sunday morning but not sure it sounds like my cup of tea any more and that's not just because of the shooting at the weekend but due to the vibe the last few times we've been. Two years ago it was a really nice friendly place 8) and I made some good friends there ;)

Or, perhaps more accurately, lack thereof :? :? :(

I noticed a lot of the security that used to do Egg were doing Secret Sundaze when we were there. I always found the security in Egg to be quite good.

Pretty much although Tony and Guy hairdos needn't apply here - replace with 'gravity defying' and add a few more safety pins, take out the Es Vive and throw in a couple of snooty Italians...oh and chuck in that bag of spanners too. ;)

So no, not quite. 8O
