I don't know what people can do with your name and bank a/c number, but I thought this was a bit suspicious. User has no feedback either. I told them noooo!

Can people do much knowing your account number??

No problem to give them it. You give away your bank sort code, account number and name etc every time you write a cheque anyway.

I thought that, but it's just how persistant they were about getting it. I gave them about 5 alternatives

And they bid on the item before I replied to their initial request to pay not using paypal.

Paranoid :!:

Id play it safe and tell them to send a cheque or use PayPal.
Especially with them having no feedback !
A powerseller with 1000+ feedback then maybe, if there was no other option yes.
Cant be too careful these days.

The ONLY thing anyone can do with ya bank account number and sort code is put money in so it'd be perfectly safe. I can see why you'd be worried tho

That's not true. Why do you think the Nigerians are always asking for your bank details to transfer you that $10 million left behind by Somo Kabidje, former Minister of something or other.

they ask for the account #, but just as a forward scam. way into the communication they suddenly need pretty fast a 10.000 advance payment for some mysterious fee or whatever - and that´s where you loose the money.

back on topic: no-one can do harm with your account number or IBAN details. In most countries of this world (I guess that includes UK, too ;) ) companies are required to note their account details on every invoice, for example - standard business.

so, no worries.
