Ebay question - help please

I'm buying something off someone in America and it says he takes payment by personal cheque, bankers draft or postal order.

Will it work for me to send him a cheque (I'm with HSBC)? I don't know if his American bank will like it or not??

He should be able to bank it but they'll convert the currency and he might lost some money from it. Are you sure it's a safe purchase? There's some dodgy characters on Ebay 8O

Edit - or you can ask HSBC to raise you a cheque in USD. That's probably a better idea!

Rach call your bank and order a USD bankers draft if they are being funny, then send it over

tbh transfer would be best

It only costs 15 dollars though, can I get a bankers draft for that?? What does USD mean? In the payment options thing it also says "Other", but I don't know what that means.

Babs, it's a very special present for Lorna's birthday.

US dollars! Your bank should raise a draft for that even if it is such a small amount.

yeah you can get a (United States Dollar) USD cheque for anything yet they will charge you

becuase it is such a small amont you will probably the charge quite alot though

you should be able to transfer the cost direct and you will be charged what ever in sterling

The seller lady says:

If you'd like to pay using your credit or debit card, you can use bidpay.com.

What do you think? Is that OK?

Hasn't she got a paypal account? That's what most Ebay users have for bank transfers. Do you want to pm me her username and I'll check her out ;)

Bid pay is supposed to be a secure site, like paypal, but i would only deal in paypal if buying something from overseas, it really depends on how much your paying for something, if you think its worth the risk
