E-Bay Question!

Bit of a novice on the ole ebay, just wondered if some of you can help out.

Have seen an item I would consider bidding on, but in the postage section it says 'from Hong Kong'. Now the Seller is based in Sweden therefore I can't understand what this means.

My head is calling out the age old phrase "if it seems to good to be true, then it is", but I am nevertheless interested in the HK reference.

Anyone have any ideas :?:

As a trusted Ebay buyer and seller.... personally I never buy or sell to anywhere outside the EU. I normally only sell or buy from the UK or Ireland to be honest because it's a lot less hassle.
There are sh1t loads of goods on there from Asia but I have heard some reports about dodgy accounts, fake goods, fraud, goods never arriving etc etc. I wouldn't recommend buying anything that looks dodgy.

Of course, if it's only a small purchase and you dont mind risking the money, then go for it, but if it's quite a substantial amount then I wouldn't personally. Have you checked their feedback? If they have a good rating, from a lot of European buyers then they should be ok. If they have a good rating, from what seems to be a lot of Asian accounts, then it could be dodgy.

Check their feedback. I would have said if it looks OK then I would buy from outside the EU. But I ordered a jacket from The States 10 days ago and I still haven't received, I am beginning to panic a little

But before this I have ordered loads from China, etc

shows us the seller and we can judge for you...

Cheers Becki - that's what I was thinking too. Feedback looks well suspect as all she seems to have bought is those crappy "how to bid on ebay" type books all around 1p!!

No selling at all, and going for too low a price I think - one for a body swerve!

Thanks for the advice :D

I just bought some computer bumpf from ebay hong kong - I'll let you know when it arrives 8O

saying that a USB router I bought from hong kong a while ago on ebay arrived fine, and although it was a little cheap looking (well, it cost 99p plus £9 postage) it does the job and saved me a few pence.

just check their rating and you should be fine.

hmmmm, it's just the seller location as 'Sweden' and the postage from 'Hong Kong' that is making me wonder, plus a £1000 new item currently being at £170 8O :?

Nah, don't think feedback is good enough, particularly as they have no sold before.

Cheers for help!

how very strange... sounds a bit dodgy to be honest!

Then again, it could be a huuuuge bargain.. fancy the risk :?:

my mate decided furthering his dj career was more important than another knees up at the closing parties this year and opted to buy a cdj1000 instead. he's now £500 out of pocket and having to get the cops involved. :(

buyers beware.

DON'T DO IT!!!

There may be some honest sellers in the far east but my advice is to steer well clear.

They have set up an account using a British bank account but are actually in Hong Kong.

Any number of things could happen...

1. the item you receive could be different and inferior to the one pictured.
2. the item could be a fake
3. the photos may be 'lifted' from another reputable auction
4. the item may never arrive and the seller could switch to one of their many accounts....they tend to have hundreds

If you did get the item and were not happy with it, even if it was blatantly fraudulent, fake, damaged, useless....you would only get a refund for the cost and not the postage. You would also need to post the item back to the seller. If the item cost you 99p and the postage to you is £10, are you going to send it back to receive your 99p refund? If you pay by any other means, other than paypal, you don't even get 99p.

Chinese and HK sellers flood ebay with their auctions as they don't pay a penny in listing fees, unlike other sellers throughout the world. It is an ebay incentive to gain far east business. They list in the wrong category all the time. It is a numbers game to them. One sale is worth a hell of a lot to them.

Don't be taken for a ride.

Thanks all for advice - didn't go for it - why go against your instincts!

Still confused about seller in Sweden and item in HK, but not enough to lose sleep over it :)

Think I'll just stick to the occasional vinyl from a UK seller
