Dublin clubs?

Can any Irish peeps on here help me with where to go this Saturday? We're staying in Dublin and will be going out around the Temple Bar area.
Can anyone recommend any good bars and clubs for us to check out?

Bear in mind the girls I'm going with aren't into House, so any cheesey bars/clubs will probably go down better than any Techno ones

The only club I went to in Dublin was The Kitchen (Bono's club), the rest of Dublin I wasn't very keen on (sorry Irish peeps) esp round the Temple Bar area, it was just full of blokes on stag wkends being lairy and pissed and gobby birds on hen wkends

But if you want cheesey bars then every other place rond there seemed to fit into that category.

There is a club calle Spirit, i was in it recently and really enjoyed it, there are a few floors playing different mucis so id say there will be something for all your group. Also went to a few near temple bar. Club M.

There is a really nice bar and a club downstairs in the Morrison Hotel (www.morrison-hotel.com). It's the other side of the Liffey opposite Temple Bar so walking distance. We stayed there and used the bar a lot (I wasn't that keen on the Temple Bar area either). The club downstairs played all sorts of music, had a good crowd and the food wasn't bad.

Hey Becki,
I ony go back 4 or 5 times a year now so some of the people living in Dublin can probably give you a better idea but I will give it a go.

Most of Temple Bar is full of tourists (mostly English) on stags or hen weekends so I would suggest avoiding the area mostly. Although I know there has been a few places that locals are going to around there recently.

Spirit is a dance club and from the sounds of who you are going with, it may be a little too on the hard side.

I would suggest you take a look at some of the bars around Dawson Street, which is parallel to Grafton Street (the shopping street). You have loads of cool bars there that cater for mostly 20-30 year olds. There is Cafe en Seine, Ron Blacks, The Bailey, Cocoon. All of the above I would classify as trendy bars. Most stay open late until around 2am I think.

There are loads of other bars/clubs around that area which are a little less trendy and possibly more cheesey. Im trying to think of names.

Im going back to Dublin this evening for the World Cup game tomorrow so I will ask some of my mates where the latest places are.

Hope this helps.

Thansk for your advice everyone, I'd say that, much to my disappointment, the people I'm going with probably will want to do all the touristy/cheesey bars. Obviously I'm normally much too cool for these kind of places   but the group of girls Im going with will love all the touristy kind of places

One of my friends in Dublin has come back with the following Cheesy late bars:
Lots of bars around Camden Street, north of Grafton street.
Bar Bia
Sheehans
4 Dame Lane
Dakota on South William Street (off grafton street).

Hi Becky
I live in Dublin and my advise would be steer clear of Temple Bar, it's Dublin's equivalent of the West End in Ibiza, it's actually probably a bit worse! There are other bars/clubs around, that will provide you with the cheesy element you are looking for! Bear in mind, I don't really go to these type places myself, so if they're not up to much, no blame can be inflicted on me :)
There's Q Bar and Redz, they're close to eachother and are on the same wide of the quays as Temple Bar. There is also Panama Bar, that's the opposite side of the quays. Other places of note would be Oliver St John's on Dame Street and Judge Roy Beans, which is just of Grafton St. Also, if you can manage to blag it into Lillie Bordello, that's the main "celeb" haunt around town! There is also Club M, that's at the edge of Temple Bar. Also have look at www.entertainment.ie
If you do manage to persuade your friends to go clubbing, I wouldn't recommend Spirit, it's just a tourist attraction really, you could go to Traffic, that's on the same street as Spirit (Abbey St), or the PoD at the top of Harcourt St. Check the PoD website www.pod.ie
Hope this helps, feel free to ask if you want to know anything else.

Hi Beckiboo,

I know this may be a bit late but I haven't been on here for a few weeks so here goes...

I would second what spunkymonkey said about the trendy bars, Cafe en Seine, Cocoon, Ron Blacks are good bars if a tad expensive. You could also try Dakota on south William street.

Wayno is right too with those suggestion. I think the king of cheesy bars around Temple bar is Fitzsimons - ask anyone around the area and they'll tell you where it is.

Club-wise Spirit is only good if there's a big name playing - otherwise it can be a bit painful. Try the PoD - unfortunately the Red Box which is part of the PoD complex is being reburbished but the Pod and Crawdaddy are usually ok. Also there is Wax on South William street - its a small venue but the music is spot on. There's a bar upstairs if your mates aren't into the club bit. Also it pretty cheap to get in and there are a few bars around it if it is not to everyones taste.

Also on the north side of the river there is a bar called Metropolitan - upstairs bar is good and club downstairs is always an option.

Hope this helps. Have a great weekend and let us know how it went!
