Dubai

heard lots of good things about it, take her if she wants to go 8)

What good things have you heard?

I'm just a little concerned there's nothing much to do outside the hotels.

We were thinking of going there last year. There is some stuff to do- you can go on 4 wheel drive rides in the sand dunes which looks quite mad, and you can also go sand skiing. Its supposed to be really good for watersports, and there are lots of nice restaurants and stuff. The conclusion we came to is that it looks like an interesting place to go, but probably not for more than 3 nights - we were thinking of tacking it onto the beginning or end of a holiday to somewhere else.

Hmmm, could be fun.

I was imagining it being like Tunisia, which was lovely, especially the palace we stayed in 8O but felt a big dodgy outside the hotels.

Not sure what to do yet, got 3/4 other holidays to sort first.

Thanks anyhow Claire, i'll do some research.

been there, loved it!

facts:
--> expensive hotels
--> expensive sidecosts (food & drinks) in the hotels
--> very nice beaches, clean and extremely warm water.
--> best time to travel (in my opinion) ist apr-may and sep-oct, during summer it's just too hot! the sea gets about 35°C (like having a bath in the bathtub) and they have to cool down the swimmingpools (funny, in other places of the world they heaten the pools...)
--> good shopping in dubai! also many good restaurants downtown dubai
--> cool possibilities to do excursions in the desert
--> waterpark...and ice-rink 8O
--> you CAN'T compare dubai with tunisia!!! (i've also been to tunisia) dubai is much more metropolitan and never as "dodgy" as tunisia (as written in another post). dubai is far more european and far less arabic-stlyee than tunisia.
--> clubbing...i haven't been clubbing there, but it seems they're having a rising clubbing scene there...i've read some big names (deep dish and of course pvd & tiesto for example) already played there...

They have lots of Golf Courses aswell I think.

A friend of mine has family there and she goes twice a year and she loves the place.

That's wicked, thanks!

Any hotels to recommend? - maybe not the Burj Al Arab though 8O

Apparently, it's THE place to buy property too. Could combine some business and pleasure in one go

hotel recommendations - what category?
hotels are all quite expensive, but quality!

most of the hotels are NOT built in arab style though.
my tip: the royal mirage! wonderful...and arab-style built 8)

Never been myself, but my Dad went last year and said it was the most boring place he has ever been to - and he likes just lying on a beach all day :?

Sorry I can't be more constructive. Apparently he stayed in a hotel shaped like a ship where people pay to come and have a look around :?:

What's that all about?

Remember that Jeremy guy @ EsVIve last year?

He lives there and said it's fantastic and should go.

Am seriously thinking of investing in some property out there too.

well i'm sure it can be boring...but it always depends on what you make of it...

it's correct, you have to pay if you want to visit the "burj al arab" (which means the arab tower).

drew - search around for the royal mirage, i think you'd like it.

I will, ta very much.

Yeah, boredom never crossed my mind at all. We aren't the types to get bored anywhere.

Not looking for anything too wild in any case, we'll leave that for Ibiza in September :P

2) Cyprus late June to see Ang's family (she may go alone yet)

3) Ibiza in September - not sure how long for. Can't get excited about it this year at all :(

4) NYE - maybe NYC?
