Drinking and driving - new alcohol limit?

Spain was going to lower the blood alcohol limit from 0.05% to 0.02%. Has this been implemented already, or is the old alcohol limit still in place?

Need to figure out how much sangria I can drink now, LOL

My general personal rule is 3 cañas or 2 wines max. Spaced out over 2 hours. I don't touch most spirits when driving. You'd have to be mega unlucky or reckless on road to get pulled over on those measures.

Same for me (or one cocktail, or 0.4L sangria). However, I try staying within the legal limit and it turns out I have no idea what the current legal limit in Spain is :(

The only time I ended up being tested on Ibiza was on a rural road near SanAn, and they were stopping every car. They got quite agitated after my test showed 0%, although my Spanish was nowhere good enough to understand what they were telling me 😅

Do they have police roadside stops in the morning to catch those drinking heavily the evening before?

There has been a heavy police presence on the roundabouts between San Antonio and Ibiza town this time at night. They seem to be letting taxis through but all private vehicles seem to be being pulled over

As of now, the general blood alcohol limit in Spain remains at 0.05% for most drivers and 0.03% for novice and professional drivers. There have been discussions about lowering the limit to 0.02%, but it hasn’t been implemented yet. Always good to check for any updates before driving, though! Enjoy your sangria responsibly!
