Dontcha Love Republicans?

I've lived overseas for the past 5 years. I've been all across western Europe, the Iberian peninsula, the Balkans, the Middle East, Central Asia, South West Asia, the South Pacific. Ran out of pages in my passport 2x.

Closest I've got to Moscow is either Budapest or Istanbul but I'd like to go someday.:p

I have respect for Medvedev btw, hope he gets the support for the hard line stance against extremism. I've been reading a lot about the imperial history of central Asia recently so these recent events have been put in perspective.
Fair play to you, my friend!

Of those areas, I haven't been to south and east Asia. Been to Africa and S America though. Anyway, you know what I'm talking about. I think you & I can better appreciate what we get right (and wrong) in the old US of A.

Definitely put Moscow on your travel list. It's a fascinating place. (probably St Pete too)

I lived in Central Asia for a few years. It's amazing. So different and likewise fascinating.

We have the responsibility to voice our concerns to our representation.
This is what I don't understand about the current state of debate in the US. The far right are shouting about how their country has been stolen or something. "Take our country back," they say. But the people running the country were democratically elected!

Does the UK have the same type of inverse tax base situation?
One very conservative idea I've come to embrace is the flat tax. Remember when Steve Forbes ran for the Republican presidential nomination on that platform and people (myself included) thought he was crazy? In Russia they've got a 13% flat tax. You pay it and you're done. No mess, no fuss, clean and simple. I like it.

Yeah, I spank it to her before I go to sleep nightly.

On a serious note, y'all have some valid points. I can't hate the president of my country, he's not the anti-Christ. The blame is directly place on the People. We have the responsibility to voice our concerns to our representation. It's the senate and the congress that votes on these bills, the president simply signs them.

Early polls show change is coming in November, hopefully some seats will be changed out but the bottom line is all politicians are crooks. I personally advocate less government interference in my life. America was built on self-reliance and hard work.

I understand how some of these ideas work well in Europe. It's just a different model though.

I live in Texas. Call me what you want. There is over a million undocumented illegal aliens in my Metro area. This means taxes are not paid on earnings but they continue to reap the benefits paid for by State and Federal taxes. Does the UK have the same type of inverse tax base situation?

Irregardless, I've been looking for flats in Barcelona or Amsterdam. I haven't spent more then 6 months in the states in the past 5 years. The populations ignorance and general state of oblivion infuriates me. It's not their political opinions, it's the lack there of. Most people don't know who their representative or senators are, but the sure can tell you the past 9 winners of American Idol or the top 10 video's on MTV.

:p
Regarding the misproportion of people who pay taxes vs. people who benefit off of them, this is true. I live in Florida (shocking, I know) and the same is virtually true here too. I agree with the rest of your post too - most of all the fact that many Americans virtually are ignorant of history and politics in this country and revere current pop culture over real matters. This IS infuriating.

And regarding original posting of poll % #'s - I AM a card carrying Republican (thank you very much!) and don't agree with "majority" of responses (BTW, where is that poll from and how old is it)? It is not always correct to assume that stances of issues go down a party line flatly - rather, it is more correct to think in terms such as conservative and liberal.

And last thought - this is my first post on here in about a year so HI! :)

Find comfort in the fact that we're no different here in the UK - makes me cross too.

Do you guys get 'What Katie did next' over there?

Mundanity to the extreme.

Just out of curiosity, if you're Republican with all your entrenched attitudes on fags and drugs and young people and liberals and nudity and club culture and most sickening of all people having fun - how on earth did you end up on an Ibiza messageboard :?: and how do you reconcile all these sinful activities with being a good, god-fearing, cookie-baking, commie-bashing, FOX-indoctrinated American :?:

Wow, angry much?
First, this just proves my point that it's not necessarily party lines that dictate thought on certain issues. For example, I am a fiscal conservative. So, when it comes to issues on economy, etc, I agree very much with the Republican train of thought. However, when it comes to *some* social issues, I am definitley more liberal, for example - gay rights.

And yes, I love Ibiza, I love my gay friends, I love nudity and club culture and good music (trance is my favorite) and having fun, and I love all my friends who are liberal-thinking and I never disrespect them for having a different opinion then me.

P.S. I also love cookies! How did you know? haha...

Pro-Choice, Pro-Stem Cell, Pro Green Energy and Pro Environment Republican. Do those exist?

Mainly for States Rights, Reduced Federal interference in my life, and the middle class that always get's screwed in America.

Yeah I munch triple stacks and rave to 130bpm. I also hate pork barrel politics and the something for nothing attitude that the democrats feed off of. No one can be cut and dry hardliner unless they are unable to formulate their own opinions, which makes them a dunce.

It's funny reading about your two positions... in a way, it drives home the weirdness that is our political system, and how party is often more inherited than anything else.

I'm a fiscal conservative and social liberal like miss florida, and pro-choice, pro-stem cell and pro-environment/green energy (although not militantly) like purple_lean. They're republicans, I'm a democrat.

We probably have a lot more in common than I have with the far left of my party and they have with the far right of their party.

My problem with the republican party is that moderate voices tend to get marginalized over time or else shift right to satisfy their ambitions (2008 McCain, Mitt Romney, etc). I could see myself voting for a year-2000 McCain or a Colin Powell or Bill Weld or (now democrat) Arlen Specter. But aside from Powell who opted out, these guys had no chance of winning their party's nomination.

The moderate democrats have a lot of sway in the party, thus my continued party affiliation. And the democrats, for all their faults, are nowhere near as nasty and cynical when in the minority as the most visible republicans have been for the past year.

some of these are funny.

especially because, as we've discussed before, obama's radical/socialist/communist/middle-class robbing/pirate/che guevara-esque tax reforms, take things back to a similar level of george bush senior. don't think he was ever hailed as a marxist.

@ republicans - how can you expect anyone to take your party and your policies seriously, and why should we, after 8 years of one of the most loathsome, evil and stupid people ever to grace a position of authority.

'how on earth did you end up on an Ibiza messageboard'

yeah, how scary is that to you ? people from all nations speak and exchange here with each other, without your permission and policies !

btw, our cookies are delicious, and yes : I love to say : "yes, I did", yes I love nudity, gays,... it reminds me to what we are : humans ! I love to have deeper talks, even about politics and economy and being not afraid of getting busted or trouble for. And yes, I like to pay tax, especially when I know its not spent for killing other people for some barrels of oil or whatsoever. Yes, I love enjoying music together, its takes some barriers and connects in a very beautiful way , better even if you dance together to it, with drugs or not. Yes, I love to help people, regardless which nation, and I am contributing much as possible of my well supported talent to the community. Yes, I want feel free and not being surrounded by a bunch a crap who thinks they can control the world, a total illusion which cracks down hopefully soon enough in your destroyed country. I am soo sorry for you american citizens. It seems it doesn't make a difference any more which party does the job.

I love Ibiza, probably the last places where you can feel being alive and your self, something which is more powerful for a community than some thing else

edit: I was reading the post from the second page one(olly), what a mistake of mine ....
