In Spain we have a very serious problem with violence against women, with 110 women death in 2006.
Now Dolce & Gabanna apears with this advert and loads of organisations ask to cancel it. What do you think?

I have my opinion about it, but I would love to hear from you

Looks like an advertisement intended to cause controversy and thus garner free publicity for the company.

It's disgusting, of course. Obvious insinuation of a gang rape. Should be pulled.

I keep looking at it and trying to see it from a different point of view, but I can only see one side to it and it's not pleasant.

That's my opinion too.
The most uninspiring is that loads of women consider it's fine and "not that mucht" :?

I admit I had to look at it twice to really notice it (mainly due to having Spotlight half minimized as I am at work!) but it made me feel uncomfortable after reading into what it could translate as.

Well it's all part of the debate as to whether these kinds of images cause people to do things or adjust what they feel is 'acceptable' behaviour.

Then again, is porn banned in Spain? It puts accross the same messages, probably a lot worse, and you know that anyone who would rape would watch porn. Where do you stop?

I don't believe in censorship to be honest. I also don't think that images like that cause people to commit violence against women, but maybe a culmunation of them (with more serious ones like porn etc) reduces how serious someone who was already a bit crazy might think violence against women is, and the logical conclusion of banning that image would be to ban every single image of a similar or worse nature.

Otherwise it's pointless and merely an exercise in hysteria which gives that image more publicity.

Porn it's not banned in Spain.
And it's not about pornography or rape, it's about the woman's image it give

It's forbiden any advertising which shows women in a vexatious form or way. It's also forbided any advertising which shows anti-constitutional things. Violence of genre and rape is forbiden

(Sorry, translating laws it's quite complicated)

Tbh it doesn't bother me - it's the fashion industry, they always aim to shock - I just looked it and thought 'oh there's D&G trying to shock', there's been so many of these in the UK (plus the other way round with men being pictured in a submissive way) that rightly or wrongly I don't get any particular sense of outrage about it.

the woman's image it give

an image of willing submission?

What about then, women who wear very revealing clothes in the street?

In my view, people that see that image and it makes their view of women one where women are someone you can overpower, are the same people that see girls wearing revealing clothes and think the same thing. i.e. they are mad already.

ah ok. But it's debatable as to whether this is an image of rape. Which presumably is the fine line D&G wanted to tread.

I don't get the porn comparison Zarbtron - porn isn't plastered on billboards.

It's a glamorised, fetishised image, but what's actually happening is quite ambiguous.

I see something diferent ;)

I don't see the relation, to be honest. I may be silly but I can't see the relation of a woman wearing provocativeclothes cos she wants to and a company bordering a very sensitive subject to sell.

What I agree with you is that enough censorship
and I agree with babs that the other way (men bein dominated by women) have been seen several times, but for me are as agresive in one way than on the other

exactly, that's what I mean. I don't know in the UK but in Spain the violence against women (by relatives or partners) is extremly high and a really big problem.

Women being attacked by husbands/partners is a big problem in England too - you're much more likely to be attacked by a partner/relative/someone you know than a stranger :?

What bothers me about the add is that you've got 2 guys with shirts off, one with his shirt already unbuttoned, the woman being held down... it doesn't look like relatives or partners, it looks like a glamorized portrayal of a gang rape.

It's obviously meant to titillate, and the ad's designers are probably loving the fact that people like us are discussing it. I'm not a fan of censorship, but sometimes people do need to show some restraint!

I would'nt normally delve into an ethical debate on advertising but i just thing that that is horrible. it refers obviously to gang rape. which is nothing to do with women choosing to walk down the street in revealing clothes. two separate issues, one about choice, the other about one of the most sickening crimes there is. It really does bother me, particulalrly if adolescent kids are going to see these good looking folk at it & have their meleable minds affected by it. I can be laisse faire about a lot of things, but not that. It should be pulled immediately, i hope the good folk of spain campaign against it.

yours, outraged of Manchester.

I confess taht at second look I thought: what is she doing with 4 gays?  ;)
Violence of genre includes any violence against persone of the other sex, relative or not relative.

I think its trashy and in current vogue with popular cultures decaying standards...I reckon we'll get drip fed ever so slightly more increasingly crass shyte as the years roll on.

Exactly the same way we got to where we are today.
