"Doing the Summer"

Thinking about ditching the accounting idea and doing the summer (07) in Ibiza... what dya reckon?

Have any of the regulars ever done it?

Grego has, among others I'm sure.

I keep having that thought too... only '06 not '07
I would so love to... might have a hard time selling it to the missus though!

i ditched accounting after 25 years at it and now i live the hippy hedonistic lifestyle that only ibiza can offer 365 days a year (and sometimes 366).

so what's stopping a young thing like yourself?

I did it last year. Amazing experience.

:) The only downside is that I had to come back to England. Biggest comedown EVER

2007 is the year i quit work, rent the house out and travel - i think Ibiza will conclude the European leg! :D

Is Jon going with you or you leaving him behind 8O

I'd like to leave him behind but unfortunately he's gotten wind of the idea and now wants to come too

Seriously though... everythings up in the air at the moment, but hopefully by next year we'll definately be having some time away, who knows where :D

i have done and prob will do again - writing essays of biblical proportions about working over there for the summer, that is;) .

i know i will never ever ever ever have a better, more intense, emotional, happy, exciting, contented, tanned, liberating and thought provoking time than i had when i worked there over various summers.

its difficult to describe it all really, more than the sum of the parts and all that. 'doing the summer' cannot be compared to experiences as a holidayer, its totally different. you eat different, party different, live different, smile different. you experience more in a week working in ibiza than you do in 6 months in britain. a month long relationship in ibiza is like a year long one in the UK, cos you're living in each others pockets 24/7 and everything is just on fast forward. when i returned to the UK after each season, no joke, it was like i'd been in a time machine and came back 5 mins after i'd left- nothing had changed, nothing had happened and that was it. whereas i had acquired friends, memories, life lessons, experiencies too abundant for anyone to comprehend unless they had gone thru it themselves.

you will have the most amazing experience of your life and anyone who has the chance to go and do it, should do..............otherwise they will miss out something totally magical. go go go, do it!!! ;)

in june 1999, i turned up in ibiza with £300 in my back pocket, nowhere to live, didn't know anyone, having one of those "OMG what am i doing" moments. after 3 of the most amazing summers of my life, i came out with more memories than the past 10 years combined living in UK, a wife, a family and a group of friends as close as brothers and sisters. my life in ibiza has touched me so much i know i will spend the rest of my life there when i move in a couple of years. *wipes tear from eye*

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works Becki but my opinion is that working in Ibiza is the kind of thing I would have done when I was much younger, when you don't give a $hit where you live, where your next meal is coming from, etc.

I'd only go to Ibiza for a season nowadays if I had a really nice place to stay and had enough money not to have to work. I guess I'm too much of a 'grown-up' these days  ;)

That's the appeal of the idea to me. I've been doing the grown-up life for more than a decade and it'd be nice to take a break and live a life that's a little less so... even if it's only for a season.

Plus, you don't necessarily have to skimp on accomodations if you've already got a bit of money in the bank. If you actually make some money while there, you could just direct that to the party fund

That's my point, I wouldn't want to go out there and work, I'd just want to rent somewhere nice and be a ladieeee of leisure for 3 months.

working doesn't have to mean 8 hour shifts 7 days a week. there are more than enough jobs you can get out there that are soooooo easy to do but you'd guarantee the perks of passes, guestlist, free drinks, etc.

e.g. selling tickets for the clubs for just a few hours a day, my mate put out and collected sun loungers (3 hours a day) and by far the best one was a guy a few years back whose only job was to blow balloons up for the manumission pre-party at Bar M (approx 2 hours work every monday evening:lol: )

I think it'd be fun to work... as long as whatever you did left time for the more important things in life like... oh, I dunno... partying :D

Just enough pay to fund said partying would be good. Plus there's the freebies that workers get.

HOla Becki,

I'm with Sar on this one, now I would only go to be a perfect queen of leisure, but years ago it would be perfect for me.
I think you have the right age and the right circumstances, not too serious commitments (paying a mortgage or own business) and you neither have the job of your life at the moment, so it looks like you don't have too much to loose but a lot to "earn" (¿?) so if you don't do it now, when will you go for it?

I have to say that living abroad it's a very intense experience. As grego said, when you are back to your place everything is exactly the same as the day you left, but you are a different persone. Living abroad in your own, specially when you are a young pup like you it's really intense, every hour there is like a day in your place and it give you points of views and perspectives that you would never have at home. At least that was my experience with my six months in the UK. I would never repeat the experience (I was au-pair for 4 horrid boys, a cat and a dog big as a horse) but it was the best decisions in my life and I know that it really changed lots of things :D

Although you make a very valid point Silvia and i agree with you on some points theres also that small part where she would probably regret it a few years down the line if she doesnt have a go. I've learnt that life is to damn short, when she's got a baby and stuff then it will probably be too late to do something like this but she's still young enough in my eyes.

Good point Mambs!
I always think it's much better to regret things you have done than things you thought about but you finally didn't do :D
