This season has most defiantly "broken the mould", but we have seen over the past 2 years, some artists start to break the "exclusivity" thing.
Last year, Seth Troxler while mainly at DC10 played a date at Kehakuma. Carl Craig did We Love, Cocoon, Cadenza etc. Matthias Tanzmann did a Pacha date etc. As Ushuaia arrived on the scene last year, you had double residencies - e.g. Luciano (Ushuaia & Pacha), SHM (Ushuaia & Pacha - last year) and Guetta at those two places this year.
My view is that punters love seeing DJs in other clubs. It in turn drives up numbers (clubs win), and takes a DJ out of their comfort zone.
This year - and its gone insane thanks to the amazing Richie and others. Sven at Space a highlight for me, Coxy at DC10 (sadly I never made it there), we have Luciano at Space this Thursday and am VERY much looking forward to Jamie Jones & Seth Troxler at Pacha with Tong on 21 September.
Winners
The biggest winner is of course us.
I think Space & Ushuaia have done amazingly out of it! ENTER and Coxy's nights have drawn in many DJs that were once elsewhere.
Losers
Am not too sure on this, probably need a more expert view. Are Pacha taking a hit with Luciano and Guetta having double residencies? Not so sure - Cadenza still seems packed out, but have no idea on Guetta's Pacha night numbers as never been near it. I think Cocoon's numbers are only down 5% his season - which is pretty damn good really.
Overall, not sure if I am just getting soft, and not naive enough to think club wars are over, but this whole Sven & Richie, Luciano & Richie at each others nights is built on friendship and respect, and its great to see (soft moment over)
