Keep the contact details and enquire if the selected candidate worked out/if they have any new positions, in six months time. If you can even find a similar temp job while you look for a permanent one that at least your working (i.e. gaining some relevant experience) to where you clearly want to be.

I'm sure there are similar labels who might have similar positions.....
