DJ's cancelling or not showing

How do djs get away with cancelling or not showing for gigs is beyond me ... Sebastain Ingrosso, Steve Angello, Eric Prydz ( Twice ) have all cancelled gigs in Ireland in the past year. Is it a coincidence that they all come from Sweden, I don't think this acceptable and if this happens I think the promoter is entitled to some sort of compensation.

Two of the cancellations where only given 6 hours prior too the gig i dont think this is enough notice...

What's your views?

only gave 6 hours notice.............????

sasha has made a career out of just not turning up at all.............even to his own night at space this year after it had gone bad :? :?

Promoters should buy insurance for it.

The day I start feeling sorry for promoters is a long way off.

Though yeah, poor form on DJ's part, but then you never know the stories behind every non-appearance etc etc, therefore I find the speculation pretty academic, and just accept it as a fact of life.

Yeah, Eric Prydz was afriad to fly!

wayno..........was tryin to be sarcastic by indicating that 6 hours notice is actually quite a lot, i.e. normally there is no notice!!

Sasha and JLC are king of the no-shows.

Derrick Carter used to be pretty bad as well but has got a lot better recently.

A good promoter will have made sure they've signed a tight contract which they won't be able to get out of, a few months ago Delboy was playing Ministry and was on a bender in Amsterdam just hours before he was meant to be playing so when he rang up to try and cancel he was told he had to get there under whatever circumstances or he would be in serious breach of his contract so he ended up hiring a private plane to get there

Seriously, and back to my original point...

IMO, it is no fault other than the promoters for this kind of crap.

As I said, they must be mugs if they allow (or have such slack contracts that allow) for this to happen, and, also as I said before, they should get insurance for it.

It's about time people were a bit more professional about it all.

as i said 'the man like...' has made a career out of goin missing...............

i was involved with promoting clockwork orange in ibiza in 2000 and jeremy healy (aka world's biggest twat) was the weekly resident........
regularly just didn't bother turnin in and couldn't even be bothered to call it in, so at elast one of the decent island ressies could have a spin.

other no-show kings.........erm............sandy rivera.......tenaglia and oakie are always pis$in about on delayed transatlantic flights :? :? :?

there was an article on stuart price on resident advisor, and from what i remember, he goes on about how he doesnt consider himself to be a dj. He stated that the only reason he goes to nightclubs is because of the music he makes. Perhaps that explains his non-showing. I dont think I like him. Sasha doesnt really need to turn up cause he's ridiculously loaded, I think it was pretty harsh on Lawler though, people associate Viva with Fundacion and its not right that he stuck Lawler in it, just when he is starting to ride his own wave. I hope Viva comes back as its own night, different to a Thursday, some of their lineups this year were great.

slightly different conversation but i'd rather listen to/watch a no-name, or lesser named dj... they often try harder and can be more adventurous/experimental than the superduper star dj god types...

Of course we've all got our faves and its a safe bet in that you'll know what you're getting... but its exactly that... SAFE!

From my experience checking out the big names tends to be an anti climax. Even when they do turn up you sometimes wonder why they bothered

Its unfortunate that they can get away with it, how many people can justify just 'not showing up' for work..

i guess we still pay the money to keep seeing them

Last week Martin Solveig didn't appear at Shindig. Found out off my pal whose one of the residents that his Grandad had died on the Friday. He informed Shindig on the Friday then confirmed on the Saturday that he wouldn't be turning up. It was a Defected night and Simon Dunmore was playing anyway, so, all was good. :D

^^ something like that is totally excusable and understandable.. I think what the orginal poster meant was ones, that just don't show up.. repeatedly.

or just showing up late.

I went to see Richie Hawtin about a month ago here in Edmonton. We have early closing hours to begin with, it was a Thursday night, was wondering when he was going to show up.. Looked around and he was just sitting around having a drink even though he was over an hour late..

He played for only a little more than an hour.. I just think that I-couldn't-care-less attitude is pretty annoying as most people who make the effort to go out on a week day when they have to get up for work the next day

its all fine when you're at Cocoon, or have club opening hours until 7 am, but not when the lights come on at 2:30, and you only have an hour of dancing time

not exactly the most reliable himself :!: :?

i don't think u can knock lawler's commitment............he rarely missed a sunday at space over the course of many years as weekly resident. even back in the day he was a trooper at mambo, and when cream resident he was there every week as well (like me!!)

commiting to a weekly residency is a big thing and less common than in the days of the superclub (oakie, seb at cream, for example)

I wouldn't miss a Sunday at Space either if I was a big name DJ
But he has been a no-show at the last 2 gigs in Glasgow I have went to see him at  He was also due to be bi-monthly resident at a club and that folded after the first month so that he could be at Space and the summer festivals!

I think it's really rude to the audience that Sasha cancelled some of his Fundacion nights. A lot of Americans had come to Space, because of the success he's had with it in America, only to see Sasha.

And Steve Lawler is a lier. On the night Tania Vulcano played (end of August) he said on the radio just a couple of hours before, that "besides Tania and me there will be a very special guest so make sure you come down". Bollocks! The only guest dj was Tania. He and Sasha withdrew some other guests as well, without notice. I only saw Sasha one time this summer, a mediocre performance. I would never pay to see him if it wasn't something really special. But Lawler on the other hand, he really knows how to dish out the tunes!! After this summer he's definitely my favourite dj. I think Viva was a great night, despite all the negative stuff surrounding it. A great atmosphere every week, that little dancefloor was boiling!
