I'm thinking of upgrading my mixer to either a Pioneer DJM600 or an Allen & Heath Xone62. Does anyone have any opinions on the two? I've used the DJM600 before and was impressed.

Your views would be appreciated

The DJM 600 seems to be the industry standard these days, and personally I like being able to walk into a club and feel at home on the set-up... heard the A&H is wicked though.

the djm600 is about £100 cheaper as well.

I've used a couple of A&Hs and they look nice and feel well built, but didn't feel that great to me (small fader sliders and such like)..

Love the DJM-600, so easy to use and the effects are really useful. Haven't got my head around the sampler yet.. maybe tonight if I get drunk enough ;)

i'm using a djm300 at the moment. do you know if theres much difference in the output between the 300 and the 600?

aundee - the AH has a funny configuration if you want to put any external effects units (like a kaos pad) into it and I think it has less channels that the 600. Next time your down, we can pop up to Sapphires and go through them both. The guys up there are really helpful.

Mark - next time you're in Ladbroke Grove for Babushka, drop me a line and you can come and suss the sampler out on my 600 if you want. Its not dificult but like you say, if you get it wrong it sounds absolutely awful. It is quite useful and you get 8 seconds recording time, although you can't save any samples you do as there is no internal memory.

I've heard a few sampler-trainwrecks in my time, so might leave it alone til I know what to do with it!

Should be at Babushka in May, so might take you up on the offer dude 8)

Seeyou tonight!

BBS- your 600 sounded so much better then my mixer when i used it on Sunday

Aundee, when me and Al were at Sapphires looking for a new mixer for him, we looked at both the AH and the 600. I think that for me the 600 wins as a complete package, with the built in sampler and FX unit. Plus it is very useful if you are thinking of getting a pioneer CDJ. The 600 allows fader start and various other funtions when coupled with the CDJ series.

We also looked at a Rane Empath, which is a 3 channel mixer with lovely build quality. It has Penny & Giles faders throughout and felt like it would last forever, but at the end of the day it was about £825 and just didn't offer as much versatility as either the AH or 600.

Mark - ever used one of the Rane rotary mixers? I am dying to have a go on one of those. I'll put my anorak away for now - I can bore you to death with more of this chat later

Ha ha! Nope haven't used one before... I wonder if Ministry has those in the baby box as well??

I was talking to one of the sounds engineers in MOS and he was saying that in terms of sound, the baby box was his favourite room because of the size of system for such a comparatively small room.

Well at least I think thats what he was saying, given the room was shut and he was bunnying on to me me as he packed everything up - you know how conversations can be somewhat distorted at that time of the evening ;)

I've used both and they're both excellent mixers.

Got a DJM600 at home and it synchs with my CDJ1000, which is pretty clever. Excellent mixer and you can do all sorts of damage if you learn to use the effects properly.

(***try this at home: get a record going, set the effect to echo 3/4 (I think - the second one in from the left !!!), then turn the bass down and increase the echo effect - it acts like a drum roll. Try turning the EQ's all the way to the right really quickly and returning to the middle while the effect is on, you get a brilliant dub effect. Also try a spinback while slowly decreasing the level on the channel, some mad noises !!!***)

I'm gonna give that a go when I get in.....somebody mentioned something about beat matching as well - can somebody tell me what this is :P :D

Have a good weekend one and all, I'll be down the Rhythym Factory later watching Mark mess about with the echo.

I'm all about the filter baby 8) 8)

As with all effects, you have to hit the button to start it bang on the first beat of a bar, or it will sound shit.

The echo for me is the best effect on the mixer.
