DJ Mag - Clubs Top 100 2015

Yup. Popular clubs at the top. Although to be fair, MoS isn't the worst club in the world. It's still got an insane Martin sound system in there and those three gorgeous lasers.

Yep! Pick the right event (to your personal taste, of course) and MOS is up there. Granted they might cater more towards the commercial end of the spectrum - at least as far as Saturdays are concerned - but there are still some gems of nights they throw.

Was drinking around Elephant and Castle on Saturday and there was this Chinese bloke sat next to us just with a beer on his own. Turned out he was studying in Exeter and had come to London on his own just to go to Ministry that night. Had no idea who was playing or anything just wanted to go there. I suppose that says it all! Fair play the box can rival any room on it's day with that sound system...that's why I find it so frustrating I guess - I never got to see it at it's peak and it could be so much better now.

Everybody knows that MoS was last cool in the early 90s. But i guess DJ and their tourist readers didn't get the memo.. I'd rather get intimate with a wasp's nest than return to that place

Think for people who aren't as into the scene, ministry is a bench mark for dance music. It's one of the earliest brands I can remember when getting into it all. Bet if you asked 100 random people to name a dance brand ministry would be the answer a lot of the time

Sorry mate, I have to disagree with you there (and I can do, this is a subjective matter). Yes, it's still a tourist crowd in there, but there are still some incredible nights in there. Been to two of them this year, and I wouldn't class the DJs playing as 'tourist bringers.' It's still a cool club. Yes it's less underground, but it had to go that way to survive.

I second this. Your always gonna get a lot of tourist in a club that has the name of Ministry of Sound and the history that comes along with that.

That doesn't mean everybody that goes is a tourist. To say it was last cool in the early 90's is just plain ridiculous.

Go on certain non commercial nights and the vibe and music on offer is still fabulous.

You can cook an egg numerous different ways and get different results. I guess it is all about having an educated and balanced opinion.

"Cool" is a very ambiguous term at the best of times.

Do you really go / base your opinion on where the masses deem "cool"???

I tend to ignore the concept of 'cool' when it comes to clubbing. Else I'd be in Shoreditch, stroking my neckbeard, drinking cans of redstripe listening to Deep House.

I listen to Trance. It's my main passion, but Trance isn't what the 'cool kids' listen to these days.
Watched Standerwick absolutely smash MoS in Feb (never mind the money I spent that night, oops), and Solarstone the month before. Those guys won't bring it the tourists. The tourists will go becasue MoS is a globally known clubbing brand. So what? So long as they are having fun and not starting fights, who honestly cares?

Too true. Went to see Aly and Fila, Ruchard Durand, Judge and few others last year had a great time at MOS

There was a time when trance was all the rage and getting my mates to come see Carl Cox took a lot of persuasion.

Times have changed and the underground sound is now deemed cool.

Fortunately I have never taken any notice of what others think and have continued my love for both trance and techno over the years.

Just go with the flow and enjoy what you like. Forget the reputation.

Each to their own obv and i'm not going to comment on the trance scene but anyone who is serious about their house/techno swerves those kind of tourist meccas. You want to be in an environment which feels fresh, intimate, sweaty, unoppressive, minimal security, uncommercial and where you are around kindred spirits who've grown up in the scene not dorks in snapbacks who read about it in an easyjet guide

Ps/ Cool is important - if you're not cool, you're nothing

I think there is a high degree of contradiction with your stance. At least in word.
