Digital in Newcastle, I went on Saturday, here's a bit of something...
Club Layout/Decor:
Layout's cool, when you go in to the right there's a bit with stand-up tables, a bit quieter than the left-hand side, which is the dance-floor. There are not too many lights, but there's a large large dj booth with Amnesia-style graphic-equaliser lights behind which are excellent. Toilets are ok, you have to wash your hands in the water-feature though
At the back there are some groovy little booths, each with a table and leather padded walls with room for about 5 people to lean and nice volume level for talking. Upstairs there's another room, but I wasn't there for long. The bars are scattered about and the service is good so you don't have to wait long for a drink.
Sound:
I can't rate this highly enough. Obviously the Funktion One sound is highly regarded, but it wasn't till I went here that I really appreciated how great the sound is. 4 of the mofo's, loud as but clear as and no pain in the old ears whatsoever. And wherever you are on the dancefloor the music follows you round. Every club should sound like this. Just wish people would stop using the inside of the speakers as shelves, especially for bottles. And I wonder how the lad who stuck his head in the bass bins is hearing today.
Atmosphere:
Wasn't as busy as I thought it would be, but it was a nice friendly crowd. A few people were a bit too monged but at least they weren't drunk. Good random chatting. Bouncers were chilled too. Saw DJ Soulman there, nice to meet you Les. Enjoy Sasha on Saturday!
Music:
The ressies were excellent, music on the night was deep electro house, and made full use of the sound system. XPress2 were on, a bit hit and miss for me, they seemed to take an age to get going and seemed to be trying to do too much. When they did let the songs go for an hour or so they were kicking, but overall I would have preferred the residents all night long.
Value:
Usual price in, around the 10/12/15 quid mark depending on dj, NUS cards etc. Dunno what the alcohol prices were but the water was a very reasonable £1.80 a bottle, and it was always lovely and chilled. Don't go without your favourite brand of cigs though, they only do Dunhill, Royals and Lucky Strike in there...
Overall:
Go. You won't be disappointed.
