Soooooo many nice cameras there, thankyou very much :D I am going to print this off and give it to Tom and then he can choose which one he thinks is best for me

I recently bought a Fuji finepix camera from Jessops just before I went to Ibiza back in June

Its ace, really compact (black/silver) and has good quality pixels (6 I think?) You don't need anything higher IMO

It takes photos as well as videos which are excellent quality allowing me to capture all those exploding moments when we were at Space/Bora Bora etc.

Got camera, 1GB memory card, leather case etc all for under £200 ;)

Oh forgot to say that it also has a zoom lens and a rechargeable battery (similar to a mobile phone) allowing it to be so slim.

Also I love the leads so you can connect it to your TV so you can look at your photos/videos on large screen TV and decent sound.

My friend is very into his photography and when asked for his advice when i got my new camera he said that for the purposes that I was looking for i.e. not for professional work - anything over 6 megapixels is a waste of time.
I have a 7 mpxl camera and usually have it set on 5 or 6 mpxl for regular shots. It's certainly good enough for regular photos and keeps the file size manageable.

The times you need the extra pixels are a) when you want to make a nice photo to print or b) when you're shooting something far away. These small camera have a maximum 3x optical zoom, which means sometimes you won't be able to zoom in close enough on far away objects (one recent example I had was at a wildlife park in Africa last year). If you use the higher resolution then you have more room to play with in enlarging the part of the photo you want.

I suppose if you'll only be doing close-ups in a club then it doesn't really matter  But then again, when there's new technology, why would you intentionally go with older technology?

Random unrelated example: An Intel Pentium 3 based computer is plenty fast enough for word processing or web surfing, but most people buying a computer today wouldn't settle for less than a Pentium 4 (or a Core 2 Duo... yummy!).
