Did i just buy my mate the worst holiday ever?

i bought me and my mates as a bday present an all inclusive holiday to ibiza..but i went on just the agent's reviews where it had 6.5 anyway..i just saw that people said my hotels like 45 mins away from san antonio town gutted coz our main aim is to party..whats worsened my worries is the hotel has bad reviews on tripadvisor- it's called rivera apartments and hotels.
I just wondered if any of you have ever stayed here and could give me your opinions? My good m8s from ireland told me not to worry and the hotels over there are often better..but I'm still worried as i don't want to give my mate a present of a crap hotel!

Which agent did you book through? As you're early enough you may be able to change hotel for the same dates at little to no cost.

Is Riviera GPS?? I booked to stay there in 2010, but got reallocated to San Remo - which definitely is (or at least was) GPS - upon arrival.

That chain doesn't have the best reputation. They do vary greatly in quality from hotel to hotel though. I wouldn't ever go all-inclusive with them again. But that's just me personally.

Do you mind me asking how much you paid roughly?

It isn't 45mins away from central San Antonio btw. That's a huge exaggeration.

Don't take tripadvisor as gospel. People like to moan when they're stuck behind a computer on a faceless forum. Most who have good experiences often don't opt to share, whereas the moaners do, so it's unfairly balanced imo.

Hi well last year my mum booked me my 1st holiday to Ibiza and I stayed at Piscis Park- Terrible..and yes I discovered Rivera apartments is also ruined by GPS so am dreading the worse..I did contact Travel Republic about changing the hotel, but they told me I'd have to pay an amendment fee+ the difference in a hotel for the hotel+ transfer adjustment fee+transfer change cost. My mates have all read the reviews and think it doesn't have that bad reviews..but am worried. TBF the last reviews of the hotel are pretty good..I roughly pay £430 per person this was for 20kg baggage allowance+transfer+travel insurance+flights all inclusive at rivera apartments..at the time when I booked this last year it was £400 at one point but increased..so I thought to book it before it went up.

Who did you book with. TBF i'm hoping just to leave it and fingers crossed travel republic will ring me before i'm going to go..lol and reallocate

now i realise why you call yourself moneyhustler.

did you know that spotlight's business is selling accommodation and that you can change your booking foc ??? just click on the hotel or apartments menu above to have a look, though you won't find any gps hotels on our site as we have never dealt with them.

Hi stephen, sadly i found out about spotlight after I had booked :( but I noticed that you did not list GPS and thats why I've already bought club tickets with you :) I've bought 3 tickets for pukka up for 150 euros. And if I had known I would have definitely used you.
Would you be able to change my gps booking to one of your hotels? I'm hoping tbf that I get told it's fully booked but as i booked in september 2012 i don't know if i have less chance of this happening or what as i paid for everything in full (no finance) in total it was £1370 for transfers, flights, baggage+all inclusive hotel

tbh i wouldnt worry. ive never had a bad experience perosonally in a g.p.s hotel and my experience of tripadvisor is that most people only write reviews if they've had a particularly bad or good experience they have to get off their chest

the only bad thing i have ever heard about the cheaper accommodation on the island is the pilfering from rooms either by ex guests who have cut extra keys or by dodgy temp staff, i think for the amount of time you actually spend in your room on a jolley its not worth worrying about too much of the other stuff, just be careful with your valuables, have a nice pie and enjoy your holiday, life is just a party.

Thanks everyone. Yeah i heard safes aren't actually safe there..where would you store your stuff? just last year i got a luggage bag with a lock on it and kept the key myself..but this year am going to be taking 1500 euros..and then my ipad/phone. my phone will probe be on me most the time but jw what you would recommend? I do have travel insurance but it'll only cover me unto £300 in euro cash

Don't take that all in cash, use a card to take out what you need as you need it, have a backup card in case one goes walkies so you can transfer money to it

Leave your ipad at home, you don't need it. If possible get a cheap phone you don't mind losing unless yours is insured.

Seriously, leave the ipad at home. Nobody needs an ipad in Ibiza.

Probably not the best idea to ask where to keep your stuff, then tell the world what you'll be taking with you...

If you are that concerned, i'd pay the ammendment fee and go elsewhere. You'll be able to find much better accomodation in terms of quality & location for same or similar price.

I take all online reviews with a pinch of salt. If you're gonna use reviews as a guide then best to do it before you book as opposed to retrospectively, as by that point you've committed with your money and your eye will naturally be drawn to the negative points.

But a holiday is what you make it. If you go with the attitude that its going to be ****, then you're never going to enjoy yourself and will end up nit-picking. I stay stick with your choice and make the most of your hol with your friend. The company you keep is far more important than your hotel at the end of the day.

I often book through Travel Republic also. Have changed accomodation once and with little fuss. Just paid the meagre difference between the original hotel to the one i changed too.

In regards to your possessions and their safety: as other have said, do not take your ipad. Unneccessary at best. You'll be asking for trouble. If a would-be thief was to spot you using it at poolside or through your room window you're instantly making yourself an attractive target. In regards to money & important documents, just use common sense and take the same kind of precautions you would if travelling anywhere else in the world.

always look on net about hotel before you book.or pop onto this site for more better help.research isbest efore and not after.i would scrap the deal you have done and rebook another hotel.gps are just like easyjet.cheap places to stay and food is ok.gps are not listed on spotlight as they don;t have any deals with spotlight.
if you thinking of changing hotels ask on here first.someone or more will tell you about it.

you got the right hotel name Rivera or have you mis spelled it Riviera plus cheques you need your passport.best left at hotel in safe.just get a top up card from uk.and take a visa card with limit of at least 3.to 8 k..just in case..plus your heath card.

thanks for the advice guys. Well am confused myself to be honest. When i booked it with travel republic the woman said as theres 3 of us we'll have an apartment to ourselves..and the booking says rivera apartments & hotel. But on google they seem to be reviewed as two different places. To be fair the reviews on trip advisor aren't bad and it's like you all said..us guys can make it what we want. After much consideration I'm not gonna take my iPad i don't think. As for the 'safe' i know my travel insurance states I'm only covered if something is stolen from the hotel safe, but i've heard of stories that people have had stuff even go missing from there..?

oh god..don't remind me. My mum booked me a holiday to ibiza for my 21st bday..apart from that place- pikey park which some fellow ibiza guy told me was nicknamed 'piss park' it was the worst hotel i've ever stayed in in my life. Not even gonna say anymore..so I practically **** my pants when I found out the same group own Riviera..

I'd just like to give MH88 a massive round of applause. Booking a mate a trip to Ibiza for their birthday! Legend!
