hi everyone,
i have just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and have to inject myself with needles 4 times a day. i have been to ibiza the last 3 years in a row but am now a bit worried as i have to eat at certain times and carry my needles and testing kit with me. does anyone know how understanding places like space are as i will need to take all this into the club with me. also on a sunday i like to spend at least 10 hours at space but now i will need to leave about 2 or 3 times so i can get some healthy food, i know you can leave once and come back but i was wondering if anyone knew if they would make an exception for me and if anyone else has this condition if they could let me know how they cope in ibiza.
many thanks,
aaron.

I'm no sure what you'll do about food, but look into getting an insulin pump, it's just a pack you wear, no needle involved.

Might be a little expensive, but your healthcare may cover it.

Ask your doctor =)

Four people in my family have Type one, my cousin since she was 3. She has one, and she's soo happy, makes life much easier.

you should pm or email scott off here, user name - macdonsj

as he has documentated many times in reviews he has done about his experiences with the same situation you are in.

i'm in a slightly different situation as i only inject twice a day (morning and early evening)

i usually eat something before going out (if its a late nit start) - if i'm going out for a session before the club then i would snack before going to the club and i personally wouldn't take my kit out with me. if you can plan your activities to be able to nip back to the hotel/apt and inject

i'm not sure how the clubs are about taking insulin kits in with you as i have avoided it in the past. it might be an idea to plan your space trip to make sure that you only need to go out once to inject & eat and then back in again. perhaps booking somewhere near to where you are going most often to would be advisable.

as far as the injection times and eating with the clubbing - ask for advice from your doctor. they will be able to help you work out a plan for how not to affect your trip too much

if you drink (and obviously its now diet mixers) have the occasional one with a normal sugared mixer to keep your sugar level up

take plenty of packets of glucose sweets with you as well - i take a full packet to every club, if your level drops and you go hypo, a coke would be best to bring you out of it but with busy bars & you becoming less lucid & patient - you can help it along by taking 3 tablets of glucose.....they are also handy for when you feel yourself dipping sugar wise, taking the odd one to boost your sugar

i'm no expert but if you need any advise pm me

Thanks for all the advice guys it has been very helpful. I'm actually feeling very positive about my diabetes and feel confident about controlling it. still haven't had any alcohol yet as i'm not sure what to expect but seeing your review macdonsj has made me realise that i should still be able to have the odd drink and even a burger now and again. i think i will get away with doing the insulin out of space but would be happier if i could take my testing kit in with me, maybe i could put it at the entrance where everyone has to put their cameras. not sure how much dancing will affect my blood sugar as i haven't tried it yet though i always carry some dextrose with me at the mo and i will try to take some cereal bars with me to keep those levels up. it's a bit of a pain in the arse (or should that be stomach) but hey it could be worse at least i can control this. thanks again people you have made me feel confident that this will not affect future good times on the white isle!!!!!!!!!!:)
