Destroy Minimal

How boring can music be? House is about feeling. I could hit a pan lid and be more musical!

Sign here if you think it's for people with their heads up their arses!

Proper minimal is as funky as you get imo. Hypnotic and groove filled. Unfortunatley its the latest big fad which means lots of poor quality releases and every two bit DJ latching on to it.

i completely agree!!!

I've so tried to like it as a form of dance music but i just cant get it. i've even bought, M.A.N.D.Y mix compilations, and got Jo mills DC10 mix, luciano mix, loco dice mix, and richie hawtin mixes and i still just dont get it. i cant think of anything worse than hearing this music in a club. I have given it a try - sorry to the people who love it but i dont.

I also hate the fact that man and his dog is suddenly jumping on this shaky bandwagon

Tell me some decent mimimal stuff? It honestly does nothing for me. Maybe on a comedown?

The Ramirez mix of Yeah Yeah, and Erotic Discourse by Paul Woolford.

Pretty much as far as I'll go down the stripped down tip, though bad bad tunes all the same, and almost worthy of "the dance".

And have a look at Ame - Rej if you want to hear a song that can only draw one word from your brathless mouth - beautiful. Or check out the the Luciano mix of Salif Kieta - Y'amore for a similar emotional experience.

That said, it doesn't half get boring after a few hours, but the single worse thing about it is the shockingly awful crowd it attracts.

TBH, my latest grandiose-ish statement on the matter, is that it's frikking great to mix. The set up of the tunes can make you sound like your chopping, looping and editing on the fly due to it's sharp structure and absence of builds and melodies like conventional house. It's music for DJ's. CDJ's.

Check out the Scandinavian brand of minimal on labels like tic tac toe, 3rd floor and Out of orbit - artists like Trentemoller, Martinez, Gui Barotto.

I heart minimal - it's the music that when it's done well (and I've heard it done very badly, monotonous and completely dull) that is, imo PERFECT for that 11am feeling. Music that makes me want to close my eyes and just dance, music that I can do all sorts of bonkers steps and make shapes and animal noises to, music that I can be silly to at silly o clock in the morning, just perfect. (god, I really really love my bleeps!)

if you want great minimal, listen to a mix by john tejada or magda, they do minimal which is a bit less 'chilled out' and a bit punchier and after a few listens you'll get it. And then when you see them live, you'll really get it.

Also, minimal/tech house on your CD player vs minimal on a sunny terrace in dirrrty london or DC10 is a completely different experience, worth experiencing before you dismiss the genre completely.

Minimal in short spurts works wonders when you want to set the stage for something a bit more grandeur... Tenaglia does it best.
Adam Beyer can do the minimal thing better than anyone although I'd call what he does MAXimal.

uh cmon thats the world cup song whole italy is singing at the moment. no wonder that they go wild in clubs when roger sanchez plays it

:D

I will upload some videos from the opening party. Release Yourself is the best night in Ibiza by a mile!

have been at release yourself in pacha when roger sanchez played back in 2002. pure italian party. i personally don't liked it. second time was 2004 erick morillo. i was a big fan of him before (he rocked space terrace a lot - i was quite impressed) - but again in pacha the party was weak in my opinion. i guess it has something to do with the people there.

wheras the most minimal parties f.e. dc10 are way more what i like... its just a personal thing to everybody... if we were all the same, live would be boring :D

Just another fad name for a style of music that's been floating round for ages I'm afraid...

Remember this same thing happening with House/Garage back in 93.

You'd ask people for a difference and NEVER got the same answer...

It's all house so therefore it's all good... Perfect for breaking up sets and adding mood and or a groove....

Also if anyone tells you they're only into minimal, they're just being pretentious little S.I.P's.

Embrace it all as this has been the best year for house music in a while...

Listened to Smokin Jo's mixmag cd couple of days ago - Was alright but near the end is a mix that just can't be justified !! Can't believe how some of these djs get to do like a mixmag cd and if they mess up just leave it in there.. If anyones got the cd they have to know which bit I mean, it's awful !!

On par with some of Pete Tongs mixes on his mixmag cds 8O

shocking :!:

Rant Over :)
