NEWS

After a hugely successful seven-year residency, Defected has decided to leave Pacha and will no longer host its world-famous Defected In The House events at the Ibiza club.

Simon Dunmore, founder and A&R Director comments, “Pacha is an incredible discotheque and we have enjoyed seven amazing seasons at the club. The current House music renaissance meant 2012 was our most successful summer to date, with acts such as Solomun and Dennis Ferrer striking the right chord on the island. This reflects the popularity we are currently enjoying both in terms of music sales and attendances at our events.”

He continues, “Ibiza's clubbing landscape, however, is rapidly evolving and these are exciting times. Continuing a tried and trusted formula would have been the easiest option but next summer will be our tenth on the island and our achievements last summer give us a great platform to look at the new opportunities available to us. So, to conclude, we will not be at Pacha next summer and shall announce our plans for 2013 early in the New Year.”

Accolades for the label's successes in 2012 started with the label receiving ‘Best British Label' from DJ Mag and were followed up by a well-deserved ‘Outstanding Achievement Award' for Simon Dunmore presented at the International Music Summit (IMS). Defected also picked up the prestigious ‘Track of the Year Award' with Pirupa's 'Party Non-Stop' at the Ibiza DJ Awards, where Defected In The House guest Solomun received ‘Producer of the Year Award' in his breakthrough Ibiza season.

Defected Ibiza nights also featured lauded performances from a uniquely diverse line-up including Dennis Ferrer, Noir, MK, Tensnake, Sandy Rivera, Murk, Frankie Knuckles, Bob Sinclar, Dimitri From Paris and Copyright all bringing an unbeatable and consistent quality house sound to the island. So, with two records currently in the Beatport Top 10, four in the Traxsource Top 10 and a genuine world-class New Year's Eve show in London, we are looking forward to completing an unforgettable year.

Defected extends its thanks to Pacha and to everyone who has supported us in Ibiza for the last seven years. We look forward to announcing our plans for Ibiza 2013.

Or could it be Danny Whittle's new " Old Heaven Club" on the Marina? What is the working name we are using for it?

Without boring everyone over and over, some of last years Defected parties at Pacha were amazing (though these were mainly the Solomun nights). Defected is getting much deeper and darker these days, so will be intertesting to see where they will go. The night at Pacha has become much less commercial but the crowd (being a Staurday) is still quite commercial. Ferrer & Solomun were a bit too much for the mini-skirts and alcopops crew....

its more than a coincidence that all Danny Whittle's crew are starting to leave Pacha. Cadenza will be next. Natural home for them all would be wherever Danny sets up as he has built strong relationships with the DJ's involved.

If I was Tong I would want to do my best to stay with Pacha. The grapevine says nothing about him leaving.

On another point I wonder why Simon Dunmore states in the above press release that its their 10th year on the Island when they first started with Ministry in 2001?? My maths works that out as 11 years in Ibiza and 8 seasons at Pacha (2005-2012) not seven?

Didn't defected want to do a daytime party at ushuaia this summer but pacha said no? my guess is they'll move to ushuaia next summer

I don't think Pacha cared, but I think Ushuaia didn't want Defected to do their night on a Saturday (but another night). N.B. This is rumour and not fact!

the new owners (nung river s.l.) haven't removed the sign outside so for now i'll continue calling it heaven.....

I didn't go in 2012, but from my visit in 2011 I agree with all your points apart from the crowd. I thought the crowd were fantastic and really there for the music and nothing but. No scene posers in sight, just smiley, happy, dancey people all having a good time. No attitude, no self-consciousness. I also thought it was a more mature crowd than other nights I've attended Pacha.

There sound is getting deeper, no doubt. I think a lot of promotions are though. It's just a sign of the times. "Flavour of the month" if you will.

If you think about it Defected were very influential in the shift toward the "deep", more garage-y sound a few years ago with the success of Fish Go Deep - Cure & the Cause (Dennis Ferrer Remix). That track was a real cross-over success and, dare I say it, responsible for a lot of the "urbanites" (another word I hate) jumping first on the funky and now onto the shuffling deep house scene.
