Housewilly - You are a serial sychophant. Your name is highly unrepresentative of what you are as you are most often seen representing the kinds of artists that have bastardised house music. You say people should be allowed opinions - you mean if they are positive opinions about what you like. I've noticed this over a period of time. You're a goody two shoes. Your the kind of little f*ckhead that sits on the fence or better still sides with the bigger boys. The one single sentence you've offered to this thread is a contradiction in itself. Now at the top of this page it says comments welcome, that means everyone not just fans of Guetta so shut up and p1ss off if you have nothing to say other than to have a dig at people for no reason![]()
I think the main reason people become haters are because dj's generally have to change their style to become a commercial hit moving away from the fans that made them the success in the first place.
I spent many years and a lot of money following Tiesto, i remember him giving away Lethal Industry on CD when he was warming up at one night and nobody really knew who he was. If you told me on that night that fast forward 10 years he would have commercial success with busta rymes, i would have laughed you out of the venue and then cried!!
OK, some thoughts here - plenty of others on here know the island's nightclubbing much better than myself so I'm fully braced for the savaging which may follow
Now of course everyone's gotta eat - that's not the point, nobody's going to dispute that.
The key problem is (without wanting to personalise this too much) people like yourself are directly responsible for the commercialisation of Ibiza and the global perception is you are getting fat on the back of the island's reputation. And, in a way, who can blame you? It is easy money when you compare your lot to that of a teacher or a council worker in austerity UK.
You don't appear to be a music man because you don't appreciate that serious club people don't want to see pete tong and those talentless swedes and that moron in the mouse outfit who can barely beatmatch and all of whom value celebrity status above any love for the music.
Now ok you can reply "well just don't come then" and I did bear that in mind last summer when I went back to Ibiza. And what I saw in the various bars/small clubs I went to gave me hope and reassurance that the commercial monster hasn't completely taken over the nightlife. I know some extremely talented DJs based in Ibiza who contrary to what you said have no commercial aspirations whatsoever. But they do want to get their music heard. And they're continually frustrated by the club politics. And the majority of tourists won't even know they exist. I find it really sad. You're ripping naive kids off, kids who don't know any better, kids who believe they're buying into the 'ibiza experience' and yet are getting extremely short-changed. They come on this forum all the time, excited, wide-eyed, they save up all year to see dodgy DJs in Ibiza. It's a total travesty of what a clubbing holiday should be about. Most of the DJs in Croatia or Berlin are really humble guys, all mixing with the tourists quite happily, no egos, no pretence, no branding everywhere. Strictly about the music.
It's what the big Ibiza discotecas could be if you weren't so consumed by €€€€€ You're selling a false version of house music and dance music, a pastiche of went before and you're making megabucks on the back of the tourism trade. You're hiring DJs not fit to play at my local pub and yet you're still hyping them into orbit. It is this I object to. I've been going to clubs for 20+ years and I've been to parties in total toilets, backrooms, disgusting, intimidating venues and you know what made them worthwhile, it was the music, the DJs love for the music. And those guys you see on those billboards, I don't think they do love music. I think they see it as a paycheck, a very easy paycheck. It's a fake, grubby industry masquerading as something higher and anyone with a soul can not justify that. Sorry does that sound too hippy? Well it's not just me and it's not just a few old grumpy beards. There's anger on all sorts of dance forums and open contempt for your booking policy. By all means drive the heads away but if you want to create another Thaliraki you're doing a good job.
Am I being too harsh? Maybe I am? I don't know you or your history, maybe I am completely barking up the wrong tree, maybe I have the wrong man, maybe I have just hammered the final nail into the coffin of my already non-existent reputation (hurrah, they all cheer!) - my entire post is purely based on your tone so far, which seems to me to reek of self-justification. One free gig = 1000s of PR points. Perhaps you also can tell us how much Daveed earns at an average night? I'm sure any losses are more than offset by the rest of the year's takings. Or am I being too cynical? I hope not.
Perhaps you can shoot each and every one of my points down in flames and if you could do that then I am honestly all ears. It would offer me a lot of reassurance that your heart is in the right place. But I felt compelled to respond on this thread - no trolling whatsoever - these are serious points - because I was riled by you mentioning his "millions of fans" - suggesting to me you are strictly a numbers man and quite frankly from my vantage point, there are simply too many of them in clubland right now...

I don't know you but you come across as a miserable, obnoxious, fastidious, attention seeking bore who has completely lost the point of dance music.
hmmmm.
I would be keen to learn what you think the point of dance music is, Dave?
