danny tenaglia residency at SPACE in 2008

It's definitely an e-mail from Tenaglia. He sent the e-mail to Kerri Chandler who posted it up on another website. To be honest I'm not surprised that another gay, ego-filled, American DJ has had a child like strop...... are you?

At the end of the day it's not art it's just playing records...my Gran could do it. These people need to be more realistic about the job they do.

I agree... I guess I just hold DT up in such high esteem ( as a DJ!) I don't want to think he'd behave so poorly... such a shame!

I think it's fair enough for him to be angry. If you book a DJ or any artist for your club, sign a contract/agreement containing a clause that says you won't record them, and then go and do precisely the opposite, you deserve all you get. It doesn't matter whether you think that his initial stipulation is eccentric or wrong; an agreement is an agreement.

Go Danny T! A residency at Space is probably the only thing that would guarantee my return to Ibiza! 8)

I agree that he can be angry and that email is quite unprofessional... and that long email that will now be posted everywhere in the dance world isn't going to help any! ( if its even true!)

I actually read in another forum that Danny T did indeed send an email of disapproval, but wasn't written how it was above, with sentences like 'piece of dog $hit' and all the swearing. The above was 'edited' by someone else... apparantley.. :?

I read the 'real' letter and although it was very lengthy, he did ask them not to record his set.. the 'real' email which can be found on many other forums was written very professionally, not like the one listed above. Its to lengthy to paste here, but just do a search for Danny tenaglia and club clorophilla and you will find the one he actually wrote.

I agree though...with a Danny T residency, I'd be back there in a heartbeat ( not that I wouldn't anyway.. !)

from the original email

" and at the end of the day, what is being passed around is a "bootleg" compilation where no artist receives a penny from it!"

This is the key factor for me along with going against the contract

Yes, DT is only playing other peoples records
but should he decided to commit a set to CD - the people behind the great music will get plenty of dosh given the demand for a DT mix cd

this way - the artists get nowt

and these are largely artists that will not be raking it in normally - so the argument about all music artists losing out to downloading/bootlegging is not really valid - Robbie Williams still gets his £80m even if some wee lassie downloads his album from soulseek

I agree.... in the 'real' email, he says that he knows that people have cameras, recording devices at the clubs.

What he had a problem with was that he was professionally recorded by the people at the club, even when he asked them not to.

He also said he has been doing DJ sets recently ( he used Exit festival, for example) where they asked ahead of time if they could film him and he agreed.

Why could they not just ask?

what you call the "real letter" is even worse

instead of saying "someone recorded my set illegally"
its about 5(!!!) times longer then the one posted here
(which is at least fun to read
5y8pxdy.gif
) and he is crying like a little girl
as if the end of the world has come
and not behaving like a nearly 50 year old man ...

... but why do you care so much - are you his mother ?

?

obviously you care just as much, by posting that email to begin with !

So you just posted it because it is 'fun to read'.. regardless if that was actually said or not?

who knows.. I guess it would be annoying if people are constantly taking your music.

As i said above, it seemed like he doesn't have a problem with people in the club taking photos ,videos with their cameras, but for them to go ahead and lie about is just disrespectful

I agree with utagaura. Maybe he has not expressed himself in the best way, but he has certainly got a valid point.

In any walk of life, if some one takes a copy of something created by some one else, without permission, to make a profit of the back of someone elses work, it's not on.

And as Macdonsj says, if its a licensed compilation then the artists (the majority of who will earn far less than DT) would get their piece of the pie.

trust me, a few years ago the diva had a problem with people having mobile phones on the dance floor at his own nights!

The original email makes its point, then goes on for another 10 minutes.

I think the thing that's daft about it is that he

a) acts like he's the only guy it's ever happened to
b) insinuates that it wouldn't happen in 'trustworthy' NYC, but in Europe where nasty foreigners live
c) that by somehow recording a set (without permission, obivously) that all the special edits and accapellas he's using have been ripped off. Though how that can translate into being used by another DJ I've no idea, especially acapellas.

He's totally over the top and loses any sympathy that I had by going off on an unbeleiveable rant that makes it sound like someone burgled his house and then burnt it down.

Yes, it's ****.
Yes, it's a breach of contract.
Yes, you're going to be peed off.

But no,

You're not the only person it happens to
While illegally recorded sets may go around the globe and be listened to by thousands, it's hardly going to equate to the sort of sales a GU cd would do.
I'm guessing he made a bagload more money than anyone would even attempting to sell bootlegs of the set would.
The artists would be the ones losing out more than him and his precious 'reputation'.

It's a shame when this sort of thing happens, as it always seems to be older DJs that think it's some sort of conspiracy and it's not like 'the old days' and that people that do it are the scum of the earth.

Well maybe some people aren't lucky enough to live somewhere that DT will ever play, or have the money to go to festivals, and it's the only way they'll listen to the music. Maybe that's what'll start off their love affair with his music? I'm not advocating ripping people off or illegal file sharing, but I'd guess the majority of people on here and other sites have downloaded them at some point. It's a lack of understanding of how the internet works from him as much as anything else. Especially in sending that email, which he shoudl have know would end up on a million message boards.

And to throw such an almightly strop about it just means that people will lose respect for him, just as I have.

Yo****oshi ... whaouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

you know what mackie,i just can't wait the new gossip season 07/08 !!!

Danny Tenaglia

I'm heading to Ibiza for the first time in June this year. I was wondering if anybody knows where Danny Tenaglia will be playing this year? I heard he does the Terrace @ Space, but I'm not sure. Thanks.

The strong rumour is that he will have his own night at Space on Thursdays , with Diabolika hosting the terrace. This has not been confirmed yet but I'd say it's probably going to happen. However some of the big nights at Space don't start until the end of June/ beginning of July so you may miss him. When in June are you going?

I'm going on the 14th June for a week. Staying in the Ibizamar Aprtments. I think they seem to be a good spot to go where you can party a good bit without annoying too many people.

I think I'll definately go to the cocoon opening party. I hope I get to see Danny T, even though it is early in the season.
