The original email makes its point, then goes on for another 10 minutes.
I think the thing that's daft about it is that he
a) acts like he's the only guy it's ever happened to
b) insinuates that it wouldn't happen in 'trustworthy' NYC, but in Europe where nasty foreigners live
c) that by somehow recording a set (without permission, obivously) that all the special edits and accapellas he's using have been ripped off. Though how that can translate into being used by another DJ I've no idea, especially acapellas.
He's totally over the top and loses any sympathy that I had by going off on an unbeleiveable rant that makes it sound like someone burgled his house and then burnt it down.
Yes, it's ****.
Yes, it's a breach of contract.
Yes, you're going to be peed off.
But no,
You're not the only person it happens to
While illegally recorded sets may go around the globe and be listened to by thousands, it's hardly going to equate to the sort of sales a GU cd would do.
I'm guessing he made a bagload more money than anyone would even attempting to sell bootlegs of the set would.
The artists would be the ones losing out more than him and his precious 'reputation'.
It's a shame when this sort of thing happens, as it always seems to be older DJs that think it's some sort of conspiracy and it's not like 'the old days' and that people that do it are the scum of the earth.
Well maybe some people aren't lucky enough to live somewhere that DT will ever play, or have the money to go to festivals, and it's the only way they'll listen to the music. Maybe that's what'll start off their love affair with his music? I'm not advocating ripping people off or illegal file sharing, but I'd guess the majority of people on here and other sites have downloaded them at some point. It's a lack of understanding of how the internet works from him as much as anything else. Especially in sending that email, which he shoudl have know would end up on a million message boards.
And to throw such an almightly strop about it just means that people will lose respect for him, just as I have.
