Velazquez is still the man for me

(given his era)

Las Meninas: what a picture. If only El Prado could have lent it to the National Gallery for the Velazquez exhibition. But I suppose that, even if they had wanted to, the risks associated with moving what must be one of the 10 most valuable paintings in the world would have been simply too great.

I recently read a book called "Homage to Catalonia" about the Spanish Civil War, which was really interesting.

No, I went to visit when I was a wee lad :) STrangely, was watching 'Children of Men' last night, and there's a scene where the british ministry of art has saved all these masterpieces from throughout the world, and guernica is hanging in the main boardroom :)

ok, the story is then that during the UN announcement of 'intervention' in Eye-raq, the press conference was taking place with the guernica masterpiece in the background, which clearly was a bit of a faux-pas on the part of the UN.

So they put some drapes over it.

1-0 to picasso!:D 8)

A little university in the northeastern US ;)

He was a great lecturer... I could see his style translating well to television.
