I'd agree - we all have different dads and obviously some are nice and some unfortunately aren't so nice. I hope you get to the airport ok Mamb - you never know your dad may surprise you and help you out :)

On the subject of 3 girls - I wouldn't dare after watching supernanny for the past couple of weeks!! I couldn't believe this week when the mother called her daughter an a-hole!!

8O sound like nice people!

awww *hugs* mambs, sorry he's let you down again, if I was your dad (which I can be) I would take you to the airport, although its a bit short notice to become a dad and do an airport run all in one day :? ;)

Nine years ago my Dad went out for a game of golf, then never came home. We then found a letter in the kitchen saying why he was leaving.....funking coward

Sil, I know you think you shouldnt speak bad about your parents, but it is sometimes hard not to when one has never been there for you, and doesnt even have the decency to tell his kids and his wife to their faces

its all well and good if people have grown up in a stable family with 2 loving parents, but unfortunately the world doesnt work like that for some.

You just call me pa  :P

To be honest, whilst they are our parents and we should have respect for them, they are still only human and can be bad people too.
For those people who have great mums and dads, and would never even think of speaking ill of them, you're very very lucky, unfortunately most people either have one or the other (or both!) parents who have let them down badly at some point in their life.

Me and my Dad don't get on, for various reasons which Im not going to go into, but the damage that has been done in the past is irrepairable now, nothing he can do will change the stuff that's already been done. And my Dad didn't walk out on me when I was young, my parents are still married etc, unfortunately he's just one of these people who are severely lacking in parental talent.

Never mind hey? My mum's really nice ;) :D

fair dooz mambo. He does sound a bit of a plank. Just sounded like a spoilt brat when you first posted but on reflection you have a point. I'm well aware many dads don't forfill their role. Mine being one of them.

Silvia - respect your point too. Think the Spanish as a whole are a lot more family orientated, have parents live with them, do more stuff together etc.

Up the Mums and the Dads that do...

My mums and institutionalised schizophrenic and my dad is a drunk who i met when i was 12. :(

Parenst are just people who had sex once. No better or worse than the rest of us.

Im a father of two young girls and intend doing a much better job.

Now wheres me drugs??

My dads a great c***! Taking him to Barcelona for his birthday as a gesture for being there whenever I needed him!

You are lucky, your dad may be useless but at least you have dad

Good lord! That's a bit strong isn't it?! 8O

Sorry, and obviously my thoughts and concerns are with people who feel the loss of parents and family members, but to think some of you are criticising mambo for criticizing something such as her Dad is ridiculous IMO.

I'd just like to add, that my Dad's "Dad Skills" are pretty damn amazing. He can literally do anything house-improvement style based, and he never seems to amaze me with his not-give-up-ness. As long as it's relatively non-technological based, he also knows everything.

Then in the same stroke he can be amazingly slow, and he has no taste in good music!

Your Dad can't be that bad if he agreed to pick you up at the airport in the middle of the night in the first place! I'm lucky that my parents are good 'uns, but even then, I wouldn't ask them to do something like that as they'd probably tell me where to go.

I'm lucky my Dad is fab, and I'm sorry for you folks who won't experience having a good Pa.

But I guess its just down to the individual, some people just don't want/can't handle the responsibility of being a parent.
