cretins who stand all night just filming the DJ booth...

Just to add to my review, in Pacha the number of cretins who stood all night just filming the DJ booth was ridiculous (selfie sticks were out on the main floor as well). Weren't even dancing - really kills the atmosphere for me. Seems to be the accepted norm now which is sad. I ended up just dancing around most of the night by the front bar as you come in.

I hate how this has happened. Unfortunately it is becoming the norm, why would you pay big bucks to stand on a dance floor? It isn't about the music to the people, more about telling people they were there.

I watched some of radio 1 last week and the number of people just standing chatting at Ushuaia was shocking.Sad. A lot of club nights are becoming like bars with music.

BPM last year was refreshing, everyone dancing and a bit beside the beach you could stand if you wanted to rest the legs. no one just stood on the dance floor.

Couldn't even get near the dance floor perimeter let alone the floor as everyone on the sidelines blocking. Was a complete nonsense. I just found a space where I could move freely and lost the plot dance-wise haha (same went for Ushuaia).

Totally agree and of course people still found it in them to complain "BPM isnt the same as it used to be" just because some parties didnt go until 3 in the afternoon which isnt really allowed anyway (example being Innervisions). Im dying to get back for 2016 but flight prices from new york are brutal even this early.

Dirk - you got any details you can send on? I know there's been various links in the past on here. I fancy something different. Change of scene.

Cheers

Let me know what you need to know and I will see if I can help. Only the dates have been released for next year and nothing else, but if you check out this years line up it will be similar. Highly recommended.

Really just your own experiences, tips, recommended hotels, cost of living there and so forth. Cheers

Expensive to get there and accommodation can be pricey, but different options depending on budget. We spend about £200 a night on accommodation.

Food and drink cheap and drinks in the clubs also cheap.

You can buy advance festival passes, but it is cheaper just to buy event tickets if you are just going to a few parties. About £30 each. Lots of off party events around the same time in Tulum and we plan to go there for a week afterwards.

[i moved a few posts to keep "tell us how it was" on topic... hope you like the title of this new thread!]

Loving the title of this new thread:D

Have to agree with all of the comments above, selfie sticks / GoPro's totally kill the buzz on AND off the dancefloor, I know I was bitching about it rather than just enjoying the moment ....nothing wrong with the odd snap or even short video if it's your most favourite track being belted out but I just don't get why recording the entire set is needed...buy a bloody CD! And who even watches the videos back? The sound quality you capture on phone is nowhere near what you experience there and then. SAD!

I watched a video of David Guetta on the Space terrace from back in 98-99ish. The difference to video's from now is amazing! People actually danced and there wasn't a phone in sight.

I sound old but I wish it was like that again

If you're in the points game you can get down there from NY for dirt cheap (20k points)

Yep day trippers, hate em..Theyl all move on to something else at some point..I just dont see why they think standing on the dance floor with a phone is cool, they dont get the music the vibe and what its about...but i do like to give them that look, you know, the nob head look..It does tend to follow the commercial end of ibiza more though.

Accommodation is dirt cheap if you get an apartment/condo. I've never paid more than $500 (per person) for the week.

I remember seeing Fatboy Slim, Amnesia terrace last year, was down at the front right with almost everyone dancing and having a good time. There was a pair of miserable looking girls though, up at the barrier, filming on their phones for several minutes at a time, pausing only to look down and check their video had been saved or something before. I laughed at first as it seemed so ridiculous but then felt sorry for them as it seemed such a waste of time and money.

Of course, their friends back home will think they've had a #AMAZING TIME!!! When they post their videos up on social media. And that's kind of the point really, spending all your money to sullenly stand and look at something through a shaky screen so that others think you're not standing sullenly but enjoying something they wish they could be enjoying but aren't, you are, and what a wonderful, better than other people's life you have as a result, but you don't because you're standing sullenly looking at something through a shaky screen.

These are the people that stand and have a laugh at people dancing and enjoying themselves, but deep down they know they'd love to be able to let themselves go too.
