just a quickie!!

when you apply for credit and you give your address/adresses, and then they do a search, do they only look at the addresses that you give?? or can they see everywhere that you have ever lived lived??

, basically based on where i live now and my previous address in manchester my credit is good, nothing to worry about!! however, between 1998 & 2002 i was living in nottingham and due to reasons i wont go into i fell foul of the catalogue people and spilt with my missus and moved out, anyway to cut along story short the bill never got paid, i got a ccj against me (at the nottingham address), i have since settled it in full but i never mentioned my time in nottingham when i applied for a credit report recently, (which came back fine) i just put my current adress and said before that i had live in manchester for the previous 14 years??? the question is, when i apply for credit and i give my current & previous manchester address is that all they search on??

sorry to go on a bit, me & the missus are going for a mortgage u see!!!

As far as I know they only look at the last two years. If you've been at your current address for the last two years you shouldn't have a problem

I think you will find that they go back way longer than 2 years!

They will also show any names you have been associated with and addresses. If you have a CCJ against you and it is paid in full you need to get a Certificate of Satisfaction from the Court to say you paid it. That will then show up on any credit reference agency report as satisfied. A satisfied CCJ shouldn't affect you getting a mortgage.

hayley - i will be hun :)

my mum recently went for a mortgage and it came up on there computer evereythin that she owed etc, youd be surprised how much they can find out about you, plus they go on a score so if youve had past problems with credit this brings your score down so you need to try n bring it back up again

also is you get turned down 3 times within 3 months youve basically got no chance because each time you get turned down it leaves a foot print on your credit reference

done that and it came up ok!! (as i said i only mentioned my manchester & london address) what im asking is if i only give these addresses to the mortgage co, are they the only addresses that they look at??

DO THE LENDERS GET A DIFFERENT REPORT TO THE ONE THAT YOU GET?? :?

They will ask you how long at your current address and if it is not long enough (I think 3 years) then they ask you for a previous one.

Mrs Jam and I keep ALL our old bank statements & payslips but were recently told by a financial advisor that records only need to be kept for 3 years (Aside from Mortgage policies, and other continuing financial arrangements - loans etc.) so that tallies with the 3 year thing on credit searches.....

It can be nerve racking applying for a mortgage but it sounds like you should be ok

:D THE 2 main credit refrence agencys have access to all your credit history, via your birthdate, they also use the voters registry(register of electors) to see where your still living, updated yearly(tick the box nextime, then the council cant give out your details) 8O .i was in the same position as you,i cleared mines, still had minor problems though!.If any of you guys have problems with getting a VISA card try www.capitalone.co.uk there issuing cards to anyone just now,you pay them a 200 quid deposit, they issue you a visa with 200 quid limit on it!,prove to them your a good payer, and they up the limit.

yes they do.

i used to deal with this for work. several systems run along side each other.

the professional system will first do address verification by looking at the electroral register/previous credit applications/ongoing accounts.

then it will look for 'linked addresses' by dates you moved accounts, the addresses you move accounts from and to and exact name and date of birth matches.

then it will do the derog info cearches (CCJ's/bankruptcy/defaults) at all addresses the system can find you at.

the only hope you have jj is if for some reason there is a gap/break in your address history but if you've kept the same bank account/credit card or anything from those days you have practically 0% chance of escaping it.

wrong! credit granters have access to the full register. mail orders companies/mailing/marketing companies do not.

and you cant see the full register at the council offices.

ok having said that!!!

i apply for a mortgage, they ask me where i have lived for the last 3 years, which is exactly the time since i moved from nottingham to manchester (march 2002). so all I give them is my manchester address and my current address in kent.....will that be enough??? basically the ccj came from a next directory account that was only ever linked to my addresses in nottingham. the only things that followed were my mobile phone details & my bank account??

i'd be very surprised if they didnt see it. different lenders have different criteria. your mortgage lender for example may of only been interested in the past three years credit history.
