Costa Sur Awful reviews?

I go to Ibiza every single year and tend to rotate between The Riviera and Playa Bella (Way I see it, the Bay is close enough to access Sunset strip, Ibiza Town etc by transport, but far enough away to retreat to a bit of normality and peace)
This year I booked the Costa Sur a little further down the road. Years ago family stayed there and said it was fine, I've never really heard a bad thing about it, but I understand it's changed hands now and from what I'm reading it's turned for the worst big time?!

My holiday provider (Travel Republic) phoned me the other day letting me know the star rating had dropped, and over at HolidayWatchdog.com EVERY SINGLE review is 1/10 or 2/10 with nearly all of them mentioning theft from the rooms?
I don't care about the bad food, the cheesy evening entertainment or even the rude staff so much.. I'll only be there to sleep and possibly a couple of days of sunbathing when I'm not going to beaches, but the theft from rooms is a huge concern,

Here's the reviews.. http://www.holidaywatchdog.com/16291-San_Antonio_Bay-Costa_Sur_Hotel-Holiday-Review.html

I understand most people only write bad reviews, but there's so many it's hard to stay positive. Has anyone stayed there this summer? Do any Island residents know what the deal is with this hotel?

omg - but what did you expect ?!
when you hear the name GPS in the year 2010 (and before) ...

... RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN

don´t know this hotel personally - but one thing is for sure:
GPS runs each and every single hotel into the ground,
even the ones, which were very nice - before GPS took over !

if you taking £2k worth of stuff out with.why did you not book a decent hotel.that could look after your stuff for you.its not going to fit in room safe anyway.but main hotel safe it would of done.

where was you going to put the gear anyway when your out?.

Plus you have advertised the fact that you will be in Costa Sur with 2k worth of gear8O

Theifs use the internet also!

Go somewhere else............

The camera would have fit in a safety deposit box, and as for clothing, the most valuable stuff I'd be happy to keep locked in the case while I'm out.

I know I should have checked the reviews, but like I said, I've been staying in the Bay since I was a child and I've always heard Costa Sur was alright for the price from family, friends and others. So I took it for granted it'd be the same.

And woofruffe, Costa Sur was one of the few that were in my budget this time round I'm afraid, I'm not ballin'.

I have already spoke to travelrepublic, they offered to switch me to the Riviera for £150, but I know they're owned by GPS too so I'm guessing that's going to be awful as well.
I think they'll move me anywhere as long as I foot the bill. What's left in the Bay that's accessable and not owned by GPS?

Makes the Piscis Park sound like El Hotel!

There are loads of thefts going on in the hotel and apartments (10 on one night ) rooms and safes are being accessed by keys

Our disabled friend was allocated a room on the third floor, which was impossible to reach as the lifts were not working.

Some of the maids were polite while others disgusted me. On our last day the maid came in while my friend and I were sleeping and I woke to find her using a filthy mop to drag my friends clean clothes from under his bed!!!

The hotel group has no money and were recycling disposable plastic cups from the pool side

The camera stuff isn't a massive issue, there's not going to be a time when the camera is in the room without us, either we'll be sleeping in the room and it's in the deposit box, or we'll be out and about with it in hand, day or night. Plus the camera can easily be substituted for a more basic camera, it's not the be all.

I'm more bothered about actual hotel staff having a dip in the room.

Choose a small local Hotel. Usually owned by the family that runs it. Because they know most of their customers they can spot a thief or stranger in their building straight away. They staff are usually relations or friends of the owner and are trusted. They are cheap also. Some good ones like the Roca on here.

Theifs only steal from Hotels they know have weak security, so any sniff of thefts in a Hotels review I would always give it a miss and look elsewhere.

thats my fear when travelling too and im not sure what to do...i've even heard of theft in big name hotels so i dont think it makes a difference

cant u just buy a lock for your luggage and lock it up? i think they only take stuff that is laying around or in the luggage without lock...i doubt they would tear up the luggage or the lock to get to ur stuff. Or would they? im from US where hotel rooms are pretty safe, ive never had to worry, but i hear europe is different

ok it was in your price range.but as you state it was a good hotel before, now its just a low cost hotel gps.so long as its in a safe you be ok.but check hotel insurance and yours,if you read small print on some hotels even a safe is not covered, good job you did not state the date you was going.

amazing - usually they never clean under the beds

Could the mod's delete this thread please?

Why? Do you want other people to make the same mistake as you and book up for this sh!thole without knowing about the horrors that are happening there?

This thread should be a sticky!

i agree about this thread - it is very useful, kenty, good decision to go elsewhere.
