corporal punishment

should they bring it back??

I say yes!!!

we had the strap at my school & the cane!!

had the strap a few time, most memorable time was when I threw this asian kid down a flight of stairs because he stole my library book, I got the strap for that as my geography teacher mr bland (not a joke and yes he was a boring coont) said it was "racially motivated", but in my defence i said "if you steal from me, you pay the price, no matter where you come from", my dad went in and complained and the teacher had to apologise to me!!!

but I digress, they were by and large a deterrent, these days, kids have no fear!!!

disagree strongly.

nothing gives a human being the right to inflict physical pain on another human being.

not even stealing a library book from an asian lad :P

WTF?

Fight fire with fire - good idea!

Teach kids not to be violent with violence!

Fight terrorism - drop bombs on other countries!

Hmmmm. :?

No is the answer.... no one should be allowed to inflict punishment like that on anyone - especially teachers.....

Teacher horror tales:-

Teacher No 1 we had for Biology - arrested for touching up a girl in our class in the lab, (been sacked from two schools for the same thing but no arrest)

Teacher No 2 for Geography - if he caught you talking, would march you to the front of the class, make you stand in front of the backboard, would spit on your finger tips, make you kneel on the radiator pipe that ran around the classroom (hot or cold), and make you put your fingertips against the blackboard, if he saw your fingers had slipped on the blackboard or came off the blackboard - would cane you across the back.

Teacher No 3. Slippered some boy so hard with a black plimsol, he left the tread imprint on the lads arse cheek, bruised him so badly that the incident was reported to the police...

Eeeeh the Good old days eh?

Dont think corporal punishment should be brought back into schools - hitting kids will never resolve anything

I do think the death penalty should be brought back for persistant re-offenders of serious crimes i.e murder, rape, serious child abuse etc. It makes me sick when you see these dirty old paedo's repeatdely abuse children because they are let out of prison after serving half their sentence. I think those type of perverts should be castrated and have their hands cut off :x

what??
behave or you get whack??

Not at all!! I dont think the abolition of the cane etc, the growth of yob culture, escalation of violence in schools, rise of bullying, violence against teachers, other pupils even dinner ladies are not in some way linked??

all im saying is that in my school, we all fu**ed about and there were some mean bastards in my year, but we generally towed the line through respect!!! That is all!!!

He sound like my old English teacher, he would whack you round the head with a rolled up copy of the Guardian (well read you see)

Have to disagree and I must say im surprised, especially when I read all the "chav bashing" that goes on in here!!! Ie chavs are a bi-product of soflty, softly approach in schools!!!

Fookin soft arse Liberals!!!!!!!! :?

How does beating the sh!t out of someone directly deal with a problem?

...and soft as opposed to what? Hard? So the objective is to get power over someone else?

Isn't that kind of missing the point?

It's an aversion technique...may be cathartic for the person inflicting it but it does nowt but create an anger vortex. ;)

not at all.

sends out the wrong message tho, don't ya think?

Whilst I don't agree with physical punishment, care to suggest a way of correcting the massive problem with kids' lack of respect for teachers?

The blame lies with the Parents IMO, yet the "system" and complete lack of authority of schools simply accentuate the problem.

Yes but do you think bashing chavs will make them good people or more violent? If someone wants to hang around on benches, drinking white lighting while wearing reebok classics then I don't see how inflicting pain will help them.

Ok agree, lets just send all the little bastards to anger management, to deal with their "issues"

"look johnny, we know you swore at the teacher beacause she asked you where your homework was, and it's not your fault you have no respect, its the teachers, she just doesnt understand you......here have a mars bar, take the rest of the day off....in fact the week.....come back when you feel like it.....when you get bored of spitting on old ladies and hanging round the arndale...."

I dont class myself as a lilly livered liberal but what I do have a problem with is punishment inflicted as a way of bullying....

Did anyone watch that Jamies School Dinners? I think of lot of badly behaved kids stems from the food they eat. One family had two totally over the top badly behaved kids with attention spans out zilch. He made them change their diet completely for 2 weeks, at the end of that two weeks the difference in the kids behaviour was remarkable, they calmed down so much, were easily managed and yet for a treat the parents took them out to lunch gave them their usual fast food processed shit and drinks and the behavior later that day was almost back to square one. Sort of makes you think about how you treat your kids health and how it effects them mentally...... :?

Or, come here ya fooker! *whack*

Kid loses all respect for teacher or learns a different idea of what respect is - ie the only way to gain it is by exerting power over someone and beating the hell out of them.

The following week... *whack*

Kid breeds the above mentality and so on until we've got a generation full of kids getting beatings, giving beatings and playing power games with each other.

Hmmm, great idea.

Tried and tested - worked last time after all!

agreed, parents play a large part, as does diet and the findings of jamies dinners were both enlightening and fascinating and probably vindicated what people have been saying for years....however you spend a lot of your formative years in school and thats where you learn most things, including how to be respectful and civil! ;)

and getting beaten with a stick or slipper teaches respect and civility?

think about it!

theyre actually a by-product of people who have kids cos they couldnt be arsed with contraception, and who wanted to sponge off the welfare, thinking that society will pay their way through life.

funny to think how the rise in "yob culture" has co-incided with this Labour Government, and "political correctness" and all kinds of "all men are equal bollocks".

like the system, everythings open to abuse. and people will abuse it and get away with whatever they can.

eg. Mr Burglar enters your home, you wake up, confront him. and bash him over the head. he dies. you get sent down for manslaughter.

why is that right? - like the little shits at school now know if mr teacher even breathes of them, he/she faces end of career assault charges etc...

if the kids dont wanna learn, exclude them. why waste time on someone who doesnt want to learn? and who seeks to play up looking for the attention they so lack at home.
