All this is putting me off travelling to Ibiza. A test before I set off, a test at the airport (albeit free is the reports are accurate) and a wait of 72 hours (in a short break I would be returning within that...), certificates, e-certs...no, just no.

For me to travel there must be the minimum of obstruction. If the cases/100k where I live are below, say, 50, I expect to be able to travel with no extra health bureaucracy, otherwise my holiday is ruined even before I pack.

I just hope that by summer I've had a jab and have a certificate which says so and I can avoid all these tests.

But if Ibiza wants to open early, what's the point if people like myself (who CAN travel early off-peak) don't want to go through all this??

I think if you arrive with your test (done back where you live) you won't have to test again at the airport here. tbc but that's not how I understood the news

It is complicated, and doesn't mention arrivals via land into Spain (ie the train) and would you be tested if you arrive from Barcelona by ferry, or if you fly in from Barcelona?
Always fancied the rail trip; might eb an excuse to do that outbound and dodge the testing if possible. But even Eurostar might demand testing??

Think you are going to find a hard time finding a place to travel next year that doesn't have this or something similar in place

I mean this is what it. Is going to be like for the foreseeable future, people want to get back to traveling and enjoying themselves after this year and at present this is the only way

I got a job (different one than the last I mentioned a "job") and yesterday at work some coworkers were dreading California's pending return to "Purple Tier" status (meaning worsening coronavirus outcomes have prompted swift action). The job is a back-office position - they're all back-office positions related to a big software company that manages motor vehicle registration with the United States' Department of Motor Vehicles in several states. Anyway...

They're saying "Oh crap! what if we're furloughed?!"

If that happens, I'll likely be let go. Or they'll send me home with a scanner and mail me the reg. docs for intake scanning. I'm tasked with operating the scanning system for certain purchases, and lately other documents related to vehicle registration. There are a lot of vehicle titles - the document that establishes you as the owner of your vehicle. We have to scan original documents, so they're the actual titles, and I don't think they'll send me home with those.

Indeed, there will only be the UK to aim for, even the Channel Islands could be out-of-bounds. The only way pre-vaccine is to get those travel corridors back, but both Spain and the UK's infection rates will have to get back to summer levels, and I don't see that happening under the tier system as there are still too many spreading places (eg education) still open.

Dutch governments wants to have monthly testing for everyone in place in march, even if you have NO symptoms or complaints.

First wave was the real wave...lots of (old and vulnerable) people died.
Second wave is the PCR wave combined with a small bump of post-lockdown cases and deaths, way less than the first wave.
Third wave is the 'test everyone' wave?

So...in the Netherlands ;-)

I was just thinking out loud. If our governments pulls this through, aren't we creating a third wave? Why would everyone in the entire country do a monthly test?

Off topic I know but is the red light district open in Amsterdam? Are porno movies still being made? As you know I've been watching porn alphabetically since March and I'm still in the "A" section.....?

I’ve been tested twice in Holland now, the system you have there seems to be very efficient.

The only problem I have is they email me the results in Dutch ?‍♂️ How dare you use your own language in your own country? godverdomme!

What's wrong with that? If it helps make data driven decisions to start opening things up again, it is no bad thing.

I note British Airways & American Airlines have ventured in a joint venture for rapid testing at the airport to for flights to NYC & LAX to try and get things moving again to which is positive signs.

why don't you quickly go checking current numbers of your neighbours germany or belgium or italy. it might help seeing you that the second wave is just as real as the first one was in regards to deaths. I'm not trying to dramatize at all, but those numbers are facts. I know your stance on the whole thing, but if you look a little further than just the netherlands you'll easily see the second wave isn't just a pcr wave as you call it.

and by now you'll also know my stance on testing - I think the dutch approach is great! in my eyes this means they wanna prepare to properly open up the country when the winter is over, and implement monthly mass testing to make it secure. if their approach is the correct one I'm not sure of, but as it seems no government of any country in this world is willing to 'just live with it and open everything up' (understandably so IMO) at this point and so I think we will see 2021 being the year of tests, tests and more tests which will also enable us to go to parties, sport events etc after the winter.
