The PCR test thing is bad news imho. There's so much false positives with dead viral (not COVID per se) material....just look up some of the latest sport news, lots of soccer players getting positive PCR tests only to be followed up by a negative (non PCR) quick test.

So let's hope this rule changes when the vaccin is here or they improve the test method..otherwise lots of people will be denied entry to Ibiza without actually carrying the virus. Once that happens, tourism will get another beat because people will not take the risk to book a holiday only to be unrightfully denied entry to the destination.

The no taste and smell thing is so bizarre. Can see what your eating and sense the texture but literally nothing else.

I’ve had loss of smell from halfway March until August. Couldn’t get tested back then and by the time I could it said I didn’t have Covid. Either way, not smelling can get pretty frustrating. How is the experience for you?

Its completely put me off eating, nothing is enjoyable ☹

Try to experiment with textures. Mashed stuff is pretty bad but things with crisp and bite can add some sensation back into food.

Easy - I think Slovakia are doing double tests on people to dramatically improve readings. Also other tests coming through now

also vaccine doesn’t prevent you being asymptomatic does it ? Just getting symptoms

That's the crux at the moment, they don't know for certain if the vaccine only protects you from the virus, or whether it stops you from transmitting it too (if it's the latter then it's incredible, if it's the former then we'll still be living in a socially distance world for the forseeable future).

my gut feeling is somewhere in the middle between your stance and @Neo95gt 'pack the clubs'

busy hiking right now so it's a short reply only ?

Live Nation putting a plan together to pack clubs and stadiums in 2021. Great idea and technology. I’m sure Ibiza club owners are working on similar.?

I like the sound of this

(even if it's from the daily mail)

further proof that more and more countries in europe wanna reopen culture after the winter with widespread testing. I can't see the testing go away until a decent chunk of the population has the vaccine (or a working drug against covid has appeared) so I think we better get comfy with the thought of passing lots of testing next summer when we go raving.

I agree.

I’m all for it, and I’ve been getting tested every time I go away back to work. They have some efficient systems in place now.

We had been debating wether or not to go to Cyprus for a short break this summer. The only thing putting us off was that you had to have a negative Covid test 72hrs before arriving.

The test itself didn’t put us off, just that the testing system was very hit and miss in the UK at the time, was a bit of a gamble trying to get tested in the time frame.

I’d like to think by summer next year the testing systems are a lot more efficient and reliable.

Overall can’t complain when you see what some folk dealing with but early days I suppose.

Headaches, fever, sore back and joints, burning sensation on back and chest, restless legs and loss of smell and taste is what I’ve had to deal with for about 3 days and def subsided today.

Responding really well to paracetamol though.

I disagree. Back in early September, only about 1% of PCR tests done here in Germany were positive. This 1% obviously also includes any false positives, so false positives must be less than 1%.
Just google PCR + false positives.

Also that 1% number says nothing. If 1% is still let's say 500.000 positive tests and around 40% is false positive (because PCR also counts dead non-contagious viral material)...we're still talking about lots of people getting a positive result that will be not allowed to travel.
The newer quick tests have shown way less false positive results.

If the quick tests indeed get accepted for travel then the industry (travel, tourism, nightlife) is saved for 2021.

I just did a search myself and the lancet - from what I know one of the most prestigious scientific magazines - says this

it's from end of september and they say false positive pcr are between 0.8% and 4.0% with links to two different studies.

I don't know where you have the 40% false positive number from. please provide a link to a credible source.

the point I do agree with you on (doesn't happen often) is that I hope that by springtime next year any of the other tests (lots of different options around) will be reliable enough to replace the PCRs as a standard to get an OK to travel, OK to rave etc. PCRs just take long and are too expensive.

that said, I do understand why governments currently bank on PCR - with them they err on the safe side of things while with the rapid ones you might still take a risk.

I also cant find anything credible on high levels of false positive although lots on false negatives?

Also known as false false positives. In a world where Ticketmaster will be tracking your vaccine status, who knows what's true any more
