Communidad & Cocoon

Alright people, Just a quickie:

What sort of music is played at Communidad, I have seen flyers for it in the past but not paid much attention, whens it on as well, is it Wednesday?

Also I have seen a lot of posts about Coccon, I love techno but am a bit aprehensive as to whether me missus will be up for it. What gets played in the second room and do they cram everyone into Amnesia like they do at Cream?

Cheers ;)

think La Comunidad is tech-house but may be wrong about that

Cocoons back room that night is usually house music

Cocoon is a great night, but as a techno fan I am rather biased! The music gets pretty hard, with really dark techno and electro, although it does depend on who's playing. Sven Vath who tends to be on usually every second week verges on more euphoric techno, verging on the trancier side at times (not my cup of tea) whereas Richie Hawtin, the other 'resident' is very minimalist techno, almost glitchy.

Look out for who's playing as you often get less 'hard' people on.

The second room is house and had people like Ricardo Villalobos (who I think's fab) so think quite dark house, but far less hard than the other room! However when I went the other room was pretty empty with most crammed into the main room.

I've not been to Cream (not my thing at all) but from the pictures I'd say it's nowhere near as busy at Cocoon, infact I felt Cocoon but just the right level of busy: plenty of room to dance and find a seat but a good atmosphere. There are also no beer-boys at all (mainly Germans) which obviously can be a problem at more commercial nights like Cream.

I hope this helps.

La Comunidad is devoted to balearic house (or is it just Balearic people @ Privilege?). Resident DJ's: DJ Fly and Pepo Lanzoni. It's aimed mainly for the residents of Ibiza and Spanish people, but I've heard it worth a visit for anyone.
The night of Cocoon, the terrace of Amnesia is devoted to minimal techno and minimal house. Ricardo Villalobos and Les Schmitz are the residents on the terrace (Villalobos is fab like Kitten say). I've been once to Cocoon, and I only liked the terrace (Richie Hawtin was playing inside annoying hardtechno), but the terrace only was at about 2/5 of its capacity.

Might give it a go this year. Go to fabric quite regularly so am aware vilalabos is good.

I suspect it won't be as packed as Cream otherwise you wouldn't have room to Boogie!!!

I've been to La Communidad ans when I was there it was very tribal/tech house style..... but didn't start until 2am @ Space

As the rest already said -
Cocoon features various techno styles in the main room, where on the terrace u can get a hold of some blinding tech house.

You won't hear the balearic sound at la communidad. When i was there it was tough, dark house, tribal, driving prog., tech-house and even techno.

They tend to focus on the darker, tougher sounds at la communidad.......one of the best nights i went to last year.

Cocoon was my best night bar none.........Paco osuna and Richie hawtin played the main room when i was there and they ripped it up. There were hardly any people in the second room. Hawtin played quite hard when i was there, but he kept the house, electro and funky element in there all night which was great.

The other night to look out for if you enjoy techno is Carl Cox's night. He had some wicked guest DJ's last year including Christian varela, renato cohen, michel de hey, jack de marseilles etc.......top night

When does this start though? I go out between 25/6 and 9/7 which I think will be too early!!! :(

last year he extended his season to 8 nights, but i think he started late july last year. Given the success of his night, he may put more nights on this year. I hope so for your sake, because it was a wicked night.

Anybody done Cocoon following Sunday @ Space ??

I'm tempted but may duck out and do Space in June and Cocoon in September . .should JUST be enough time to recover :D

I would need a good night at Amnesia later in the week in June I think to round off the hols. Have to check out the Calendar but avoid the major scrum at Cream I reckon.

Yeah I'm giving Cream the wide berth this year, couldnt enjoy it cos it was too packed and that was beginning of July! I'm not really a massive trance fan either

Probably do Underground on the Thursday, unless anything else crops up!
