Comments about the DJ sets for the competition

While I am not doubting that these are 3 great mixes and good luck to them, I think it is rather unfair that all 3 DJs didnt join this forum until July 2012.......and with the exception of Steve have only posted 1 post......would have been good if at least 1 of the 3 had been a member and contributor for at least a year

i know. i actually mailed stivi (nostrum) halfway through and said that it was a shame most of the applicants joined specifically for the competition!

we'll definitely run another competition next year

just for the future and for those who weren't chosen... and a lot of you only narrowly missed out.

as a rule, i thought too many mixes were too bland. this warm up set doesn't need to be boring. it's not the first set in the club, rather it is continuing the sunset terrace vibe and preparing for mark knight. now obviously you can't start with levels (although someone did lol), but that doesn't mean just a monotone bass line for 30 minutes. mark knight himself plays music which is really quite accessible, so i thought the warm up set had to be quite accessible as well. the djs who won, didn't necessarily have the most cutting edge or underground tracks, but they had a nice danceable groove going.

there were quite a few djs, imo, who played their own style, rather than adapting their style to the situation. if you are sven väth or carl cox, then you get booked to play your music; most other djs have to adapt to the venue/crowd/time of day, etc. that is the true skill involved.

it was a really close run thing for several of you and difficult to call for us.

I know I was one of the chosen and I'm not wanting to create any animosity towards myself, but I can understand the point that I only just seemingly joined just for the comp, but I used to be member of the forum a while back, and due to various reasons I cancelled my sign up when I decided that I would move to Australia. I'm back now and fully concentrating on this again, as you can see I'm pretty active already and will continue to be.

To be fair to James and the rest of the spotlight crew, choosing mixes can be bloody hard, and as he mentioned, it was an incredibly close run thing!

I am obviously very thankful that my mix was chosen as one of the final 3 and I've been DJing for many years without 'that' break.

I just thank James and the rest of spotlight that they thought I was good enough to get through to the stage I have, so thank you again and may the best man win.

Thank you all
