Come on you Barca !!!

I don't know how Grego can seriously think we lack strength and depth in the squad but one area we are very light is upfront and if Crespo goes next season, we will really struggle.

what i said was that you lack quality up front and strength in depth in defence! for me del horno, ferreira, glen johnson are not good enough for where you wanna go. hence the whole ashley cole fiasco last year! carvalho is a liability and huth is a squad player at best. terry is not given his due for how much you depend on him, 2 cleared off the line last night.

even were you have real quality - midfield, too many are out of form or not given a chance - duffer, SWP and more worringly robben who is a million miles from the form in his first 6 months at chelsea.

I thought it was a really good match, loads of good football bgin played. It mad me mad though to see so much diving and rolling around from BOTH sides. Since when was football about play-acting and quick glances at the referee to see if he's looking at them?

I dont think Del Horno should have been sent off, it should have been a yellow IMO. I think it slightly ruined the game because obviously fater that Chelsea weren't playing up to their full potential.

Let's hope the second leg is better anyway... I'd like Chelsea to do well in this because the only other London team left is Arsenal and I fookin hate the Gooners!

A beautiful pic

And an ugly pic

I'd like to moan about the Barca play acting but I'm not really in a position to with Robbens performance the other week

The staunchest Chelsea fan (none of these glory-hunter types....), and you still manage to say things like this.

I salute you sir.

For one, I didn't see any of the game, though gutted Chelsea didn't win.

My only gripe with Chelsea is the arrogance of Jose Mourinho, and for that, especially as they got DONE by their own (play-acting) game, I'm a little glad they got beat (and JM shut up), though I hope they smash them at the Nou Camp and go through.

They got a taste of their own medicine last night, and (by all accounts) were outclassed.

Underestimate Chelsea at your peril though. Somehow I don't think they'll take a loss in their back yard laying down...

Hi folks

Only stopped in at the EasyInternet to check my email but couldn't resist a quick visit to the Spotlight.

I, like BBS, was at the game. It was a great night of football. From Chelsea's side, great individual performances by Makalele (how many times did he steal the ball from under people's feet?!). Lampard and Gudjohnsson showed technical skills running at defenders that even I didn't think they had... I think Robben ran around defenders twice as much as Ronaldinho did! Terry, Carvalho, Ferreira (does he think he's a stiker after scoring last week?!) ... good performances all around. For the first part of the 2nd half, it almost didn't look like they were playing with only 10 men.

But in the end, when teams this evenly matched (yes, I think they are nearly perfectly evenly matched), 10 vs 11 is going to show and Barca should and very easily could have padded the score. It was a bad idea not to do so, and it looked like Barca relaxed a bit in the last 10 minutes when they could have left 3-1 or 4-1. Solid performance from the Catalans and some quite decent defending alongside their always strong attack.

For Barca, Messi was certainly the best player on the pitch last night. Great performance, amazing talent and speed. But so sad to see him fake injury after clashing with del Horno. No room for that in the game, I say. (and no, I won't defend Robben in the Liverpool incident either). I don't think del Horno faked it because you could see by his face he was in pain (and halfway limped off the field after the card). The red card was harsh.

I'll remain optimistic about the second leg. It's a bit of history repeating so far... 2-1 in the first leg, red card, own goal. The question is, can you win 4-2 at the Nou Camp? Not if Drogba plays like that!

BBS, very fair again. Youre one of the more objective Chelsea fans I know.

I guess youre right about Mourinhos tactics. Its just that Barca always struggle more when teams put 10 men behind the ball. Plus we wouldve been happy with a 1-1, so when Robben came off, I was expecting Huth to come for him, not another forward player.

Funnily enough your biggest problem I thought was scoring the first goal. We wouldve settled for a 0-0 (or atleast not risked it too much), but once you scored we knew we had to get one back as soon as possible, and 1-1 is always better than a 0-0 for us.

Rijkaard needs some credit too, he set us up perfectly, not risking too much, plus not giving away 3 goals in 20 mins like last year!! The first half was more of a chess match. We were actually looking solid for once, it wasnt a typical Barcelona approach.

has anyone else noticed that when some people say they support a team, particularly a sussessful team, they then add a little annecdote to qualify their credentials. every man utd fan you meet will normally do this and i find more & more chelsea fans are doing it now too.

so Messi didn't look at the ref and THEN decide to roll about?!
What game were you watching?!

As i said Stu, the Red Card was for the Foul and not the Injury! So he fact he looked at the ref and rolled about abit was relative? What about Del Horno's play acting trying to avoid the red?

What game were u watching? Obviously u have ur Chelsea Blinkers on!

Maybe that true, but its been known for him to defend everything thats British vehemently. ;)

One last word on the matter before the return leg, whoever says Del Horno shouldnt have been sent off after these two tackles below is seeing things through tainted glasses. (Specially the first one, where Messi DIDNT roll around on the floor trying to get him booked)
At the very least you can say its debatable and the Ref had a point.

My sentiments exactly Ferd. To be honest, i cant believe there is even a debate. The 1st tackle was a straight red! Stu reveal urself to be the Chelsea fan u realy are!;)
