Cocaine traces detected in River Thames

LONDON (AFP) - So much cocaine is being used in London that traces of the white powdered narcotic can be detected in the River Thames, the Sunday Telegraph newspaper said.

Citing scientific research which it had commissioned, it said an estimated two kilogrammes of cocaine, or 80,000 lines, spill into the river every day after it has passed through users' bodies and sewage treatment plants.

It extrapolated that 150,000 lines of the illegal drug are snorted in the British capital every day, or 15 times higher than the official figure given by the Home Office.

"Because of the long-term complications of cocaine use, we are looking at a healthcare time bomb," clinical toxologist John Henry was quoted as saying.

Cocaine use has been in the headlines in Britain after fuzzy images of supermodel Kate Moss apparently enjoying some lines in a London recording studio were published in a tabloid newspaper.

She soon went into detox after losing some of her most lucrative contracts, but is already making a comeback, appearing Sunday on the front page of several newspapers -- including the Sunday Telegraph.

there was somethin similar to this on BBC news website not long ago about this river in northern italy dubbed "the river of cocaine" (original!), which basically said the level of usage was far greater than anyone expected.............


..........on a speedlink to this article was also one about 50% of toilets in the European Parliament testing positive for coke use!! and apparently they'd only been cleaned 15 mins earlier.

I didn't posted the article because there is cocaine in London. I'm sure that'd surprise no one.

I was just amazed by the volume that ends up in the river.

I wonder if there's a way to distill that out of the water... imagine the money you could make off 2kg a day :lol:
 
its a terrible article and its accuracy is likely to be p*ss poor. For instance, how do they quantify the size of a "line"?

and when it is passed throught he body it is metabolised - its no longer cocaine.

how would u do it though cos 2 kg going into the trillion billion gallons of water in the river thames = a very very very very diluted couple of kilos.

maybe if u just scooped out a bucketful every day and stuck it into a spare resorvoir(!), u might have enough for say.....i dunno.... a small line every year.
 
Everyone is on it down here. Especially the media types. I work in media sales and as long as you can do your job then a little snort of the old Marching Powder at the end of the week can be a good laugh. I do know a few people who take it to extremes. Same with everything though, everything in moderation (apart from bum sex and playing football!) :D
 
well i KNOW london is full of C babes, i mean...i honestly cant say i know a single soul in London that doesnt do a little or more from time to another. I think ill be the only person in Lonodn never having tried it and still refuses to.
 
I wouldn't touch the stuff with a 10-foot pole (or a 10 cm straw, for that matter :lol: )

It's got no hops or barley involved, isn't served cold, and can't be sipped for half an hour.

i can see it now.

loads of illegals rushing down to the thames, bottling up water and taking it back to the warehouse to be re-processed.

Is it all coke that's passed through people's bodies, or would it take into account coke being flushed down toilets from people being raided etc??
 
Well, it began as a simple discussion of the news.

Forum rules state: 2. No posts about where and how to get drugs.

Unless you actually took my idea of filtering Thames water seriously, that's not what we're doing :lol:
