Have just read the review for the Cocoon opening which I couldn't make due to being across the water at Sonar in Barcelona and wasn't able to squeeze in any more holiday time. So near and yet so far. Can anyone tell me if the after party was at the same not so secret location as the closing party last year? Did anyone go to it? What was it like....and are there likely to be parties there every week over the summer or just for the opening and closing?

I'm looking forward to seeing Sven in action 9 Aug and for the Closing so hoping for more shambolic hours of jumping up and down with the Cocoon posse in various states of disrepair! :lol: :lol:
 
I heard from some German guy the afterparty was at the same place... but they had some troubles with the police again...

there are actually cocoon afterpartys throughout the summer - not just at the opening and closing parties.
but I'm not sure if there is one every week...
 
Thanks for the info. Wonder if the police turned up later on in the day so that at least people had some time to enjoy themselves. Doesn't sound like they will be able to have many more there over the summer though without the police getting annoyed. Have you ever been to any other parties then? Have they been on beaches or back at villas...Guess it is stating the obvious when it comes to finding out about such parties - it's all about who you know and how to get there (which often means getting lost and then stumbling across loads of other people in country lanes all trying to find the secret location) which is all part of the fun I guess!
 
Hi Eva - yes I did read your review which was all very ironic since I was in Barcelona for Sonar when you left for Ibiza and my original plans involved hopping across on the Monday for Cocoon. Lack of holiday time and a great line up of things to do in Barcelona meant that I wasn't too hard done by really. I had 3 nights and 4 days of electro and techno with very little sleep anyway with Gigolo records party at the Moog the highlight. I haven't been to any opening parties, may be next year...

I have been to the closing of Amnesia which is really good fun and recommended - although the music isn't the best. It gets very busy and then very messy and a little bit twisted as the old timer party people plus everyone else come out of the woodwork and the party just goes on and on and on. I have been to Cocoon at least once every year since it started and hoping that it will be as good this year. Amnesia is a great venue to have it as there is enough space for everyone to jump around and a decent soundsystem (apart from the sound not being that good in the VIP area). Even if Sven may not be the DJ he was once (according to the critics) he still is a top party organiser and performer and his entertainment including the champagne incident to Vitalic at the Closing last summer is one of my unforgettable memories!:lol: It reminds me of many an atmospheric night at the Orbit, Leeds (now closed down) which was one of the best techno clubs in England and at which I saw Sven play numerous times (in various states of disrepair!)

One of the best nights clubbing I have ever had.
Some of the music between 6 and 8am was incredible, ambient techno.
 
yes there were some really good tunes being played out - not sure that they all quite fitted together towards the end and seemed a bit more like pic n mix from Sven's extensive collection which kind of went with the overall level of chaos. Although I'm not sure about the wailing female vocals which came on towards the end they were a bit much for my battered ear drum to contend with - as am not a dj I can't really speak technically here. Did dance like a maniac for a full working day without much of a teabreak which meant that I did have to do a bit of sitting around on the beach at the afterparty! Every time I hear that Villalobos' Easily it takes me back to the Cocoon nights and remembering him swaying around in between Sven and Richie as they appeared to be holding him up at the end to rounds of applause. He must have been overcome with the emotion! They did make a rather funny comedy threesome though what with the matching hair and lanky limbs combos.
 
Cocoon is definately a great experience.... A must see for all techno luvers.

I think this years new party MEGANITE will bring some fresh air to the islands techno scene. The Line Up is very international and I expect a very international and unique crowd too.
