Cocoon @ PACHA discussion

I second the jealousy, I feel like the second go around after the opener is always solid and a little less crowded so you get a nice vibe without being crammed. But I do have to ask what exactly everyone loves about Gerd? I'm not hater by any means by I've caught him a couple of times both in Ny and abroad over past few years and was never overly impressed. I certainly understand his range as a dj is appealing, but at least the last time I saw him here in Ny around winter time, his set was all over the place. Genuinely interested to hear thoughts on him.

He’s a great track selector and isn’t afraid of going across many genres, keeping you guessing and bringing suprise with so many great choices throughout his sets.

Can’t wait to catch him at Lost Village in August.

I’ll give that set a listen.

His boiler room set from Sugar mountain this year is brilliant. As is Honey Dijon’s who played right after him.

Early report from Cocoon tonight - incredible! Gerd Janson’s warm up was beyond words and Sven came in and played one of the best sets I’ve ever heard him play. A very techno affair besides the last hour. Quite tough, a bit more how I would imagine a main room set.

Either way anyone doubting Cocoon at Pacha please go down and look for yourselves - atmosphere, crowd and music tonight was superb. Easily the best event for this trip, and one of my favourite ever Cocoons!

Just want I wanted to hear as I’m logging on :(

Glad you had a blast though!

Sounds amazing. These were often the 'slower weeks' in the past when they had to try and fill 2 rooms in Amnesia in early June, but sounds like it's working for them in Pacha so far. Out of interest, were the tables (bottle service) area that busy? Also, did you dip into Room 2?

Thanks for the link, not a bad set but I think i've now narrowed down that Gerd just isn't for me. I'm not really into the disco'y aspects he brings in and the overall flow of the set doesn't do much for me. I think I've only got room in my headspace for one dj similar with that kind of range style wise and it belongs to the Black Madonna.

The track selection from that set is absolutely brilliant IMO. All over the place but it works.

I know someone who was at Primavera last week and Gerd's set was the best of the weekend apparently.

Listened at work today and enjoyed it, worth a 2nd listen. Loving mobi ‘go’ thrown into the mix.

yeah, Moby stood out
think I heard another old rave stomper CLS in there too
highlight for me is Moroder near the end - sounds like the cheeky Glenn Underground bootleg (boss tune!)

+1.

I planned to go only for gerd janson last night and get home early-ish...yeah right.

the opening was decent, but musically last night was miles better and the atmosphere was great.

I also have to say I was a little worried as to whether it would be busy at all last night, but it was just perfectly busy in the main room. room two was quiet this time tough (was very busy on the opening night).

Any thoughts already on next week?
Was gutted when I found out my Cocoon date would be the first one this season without Sven, but rather a Drumcode takeover (from what I can make of the lineup). You guys think this will be busy?

Second Room with Carl Craig (all night long Funk & Disco Set) sounds like a very interesting changeup though, so will definitely check that out as well...

Talking of Disco sets, does DJ Koze ever play that kind of set? I know he produces a lot of disco-inspired stuff, but does he ever play that kind of set?

I think it should be fine numbers wise. probably not packed but that´s better anyway.

paradise opens the week after, that is when there will be some actual competition to cocoon on wednesdays. next week the only other event is la troya at heart which I don´t think will take away a lot of people from cocoon.

and yeah, that CC funk & disco set will certainly be interesting!

It could be interesting or it could be school disco. Not sure about Carl Craig anymore. He was once amazing of course. The paperclip people records are some of the best house/techno I own
