Clubbing atmosphere to change??

I agree with a lot of Jojo.Xx's post AND a lot of what sophie_vip have to say, too many good points to quote everyone (especially since I still can't use my return key! :spank:) but... while I completely agree that a dancefloor that contains people with attitude who are there for the scene, and not the music, is obviously bad, it's not nearly as bad as a dancefloor containing people with attitude who are the for the scene and people who have gone in with a negative attitude because they are worrying too much about the people with an attitude who are there for the scene! Sometimes, sometimes, (and I probably need to practice what I preach to a certain degree) the best thing to do is turn the other cheek. Don't give the idiots the satisfaction. And don't waste energy on them. Save that for dancing! :) Bandwagon jumpers by definition are not a permanent fixture. It just happens that dance-music in general is the "in-thing" at the moment. Wait until the next big thing to comes along, and, fingers crossed, the majority of idiots will F-off! In the mean time, just gotta ride it out.

As I previously said I'm not bothered who goes clubbing. I had a pint tipped over my head in Sankeys Ibiza by a scenester girl last year because I tipped a bit of my drink on her arm. While I continued to dance with soaking wet hair and couldn't care less she was ranting at someone else :) Hence my opinion is not favourable. Also get pushed about because people want to take pics of groups of friends in a crowd full of dancing people then they want to stand there while other clubbers are not allowed to bump into them. If I was to say I enjoyed that element of clubbing these days then I would be a weak As5 sitting on the fence afraid to offend people. And it's not my age I party harder than any of them, get wrecked bla bla I don't care when people bump into me, step on my toes etc it's a great way to meet randoms :)

A good friend of mine said recently, "when you used to knock into somebody into a club, you'd apologise, get chatting and end up best mates for the rest of the night. Not nowadays - more likely to end up with a drink over your head" Guess you can relate to that then!

I don't enjoy that particular element - not sure anybody does tbh. But, for me, clubbing still has a lot of positives to offer which outweigh the negatives. Focus too much on the negatives, and you will start to forget the positives.

A lot of it is, ahem, people getting on a similar 'plane'. When you're on that particular plane, you're more likely to be tolerant of others. It's almost impossible to fall out with people.

The biggest threat to clubbing in Ibiza is crappy VIP culture.

Yet ironically enough, it's this same VIP culture that's probably going to keep the island going financially at a similar level to previous years whilst all the 'headline' DJ's piss off to Las Vegas for the season.

There will always be somewhere in Ibiza that fits your mood. May just be harder to find year on year.

I still go to clubs/venues where they have massive areas roped off for VIPs (even when there are few or none to be seen!), but it's no coincidence that Sankeys became my fave Ibiza club I've stepped into last year. Atmosphere so different to clubs which have VIP or are too big...

i'm sure the trendy deep house thing will last about as long as the "its cool to like dubstep" thing, which in the UK now seems to have vanished :D. i don't really like either genre so i find it quite funny at how irate people get about it! although i'm sure i wont be laughing if it suddenly becomes cool to like umek :P

I think you just have to pick your club, pick your night there carefully and pick the time you choose to go. There's not a single club in Ibiza (or London) that I'd spend the whole night in... and there are plenty of big events with DJs I'd like to see but decided against it on account of the setting and likely dominance of a less than amenable atmosphere, even with the best will in the world.

The mood and crowd in some clubs can change a lot over the course of a night and through the Season. For me that sometimes means waiting till late or leaving early and moving on. It's not always predictable but if you go out often enough patterns do emerge - and they're different out there to what you get at home.

If you've not the luxury of getting to grips with things by repeat visits then best option is to take your best shot and go enjoy yourself, whoever is there. If you really can't then you need to do your homework and ask people honestly who know for best chance and then go with open heart and open mind. Steer clear of 'marketing factory' nights likely to be full of 'sightseers' in early hours. They are often all gone home by half three to 4am as they get bored. Plenty of free places open to keep you busy till then ! I've happily gone to Privilege / Amnesia as late as 5am in August and still found it worthwhile and a great night with really good crowds.

A disco nap between 11pm and 1-2am can work wonders too if you can't be bothered to go out over those preliminary hours. Get up, few bevvies and off you go with enough energy to carry on and get a decent day in when you're kicked out in the morning. Ibiza clubbing is a different beast to back home. So if you're really serious about managing your crowd exposure then there are ways round it - but sometimes you do need to be flexible and accept that you can't have everything perfect all the time.

As far as UK is concerned, I've not been clubbing since September. The London scene got so underwhelming I really couldn't be bothered to put myself through it. Largely on account of atmosphere, and crowds. And just too much time and money travelling back and forth for a smaller party now and again. In Ibiza everything is on your doorstep, masses to choose from, even ordinarily annoying people in high spirits. That's one of the great things about its nightlife. Take it for what it is - or just leave it. In the end, people getting fed up around other people when out for the night = net negative contribution. So if you think that's where things are headed then don't go out and get some sleep instead ! You're doing yourself and everyone else a favour. Plenty of other things to enjoy on the island and elsewhere.

Oh - and the clubbing atmosphere changes every year. I stopped going to DC-10 couple of years back and had taken breaks from it before. Amnesia and Privilege even more so. But last year had great nights at both Vista Room and Amnesia (though Music On for me was a total disaster - worst crowd I saw the whole Season). Space was amazing every night except one We Love (which was average)... and Sankeys was great too. Like some above I think the club that'll change most this year is Sankeys. Reckon it's entering a 'transition' phase which won't be net positive - but you never know. However Pacha may get better, Vista Room is on the ascent, Space will have some amazing nights and there will be great parties at Sirocco and no doubt other beach club venues. Will just have to see where the different crowds choose to go - and the atmosphere that suits each person will be there for the choosing. Every Season takes its own shape. Just go with the flow and see what happens... and if you really don't like the crowd of a night then take it on the chin and move on somewhere else ! :)

Lets not forget alot of people went to acid house parties not specifically for that type of music but for the extremely strong pills! it certainly wasnt 'just' the music that brought people from all walks of life together , as nice an image as that is.

The crowd and atmosphere is definitely the deal breaker for me when going to a club. The last 4 times I've been to Ibiza the only clubs I've been to have been space and dc 10 and it won't change this year. Definitely my favourite clubs. Although there are some amazing line ups at amnesia this year already, its a terrible overhyped overcrowded club and as for Pacha, Ushuaia and bomba... I wouldn't go into these places for a piss. This isn't Ibiza for me.

Sankeys and the vista at privilege look good, hopefully check them out at some point...

Sankeys is ace. It's got a lot going on this year, and with the very reasonable pricing it's well worth going. Probably my favourite Ibiza club after Space.

For the record I like most genere's of dance music I could go to a house night with a DJ like Roger Sanchez and have a good night the same as if I went to a techno night with a DJ like Loco Dice. .

Sorry dude, call it whatever music you want but the S man (was a fan a decade ago) did not play House Music anymore : money Rulz he played some crap but looks like whole people enjoy it .. i was bored to his set at ibz calling last closing @ Space...& enjoy more what Marco LOCO in sunset terrace where only 10 people (what a shame ,seems a lot of people don't know what is HOUSe music & enjoy superstar dj that play commercial, cheezy/crappy stuff) ..the set of Wally Lopez was less boring but it's not the wally i enjoyed past decade...where the balearic sound have been? 8O

Dance Music have been very VERY polular for a decade & with this, come a lot of sh"iI"t...(i worked in music (any kind) industry so i can speak of music business on the whole..same conclusion:whole people are lobotomized with what the media wants to feed them :?)..you see the guy from black eyed peas on a party @ space...that means a lot  why not rihanna on guest star @ space?
Hope this summer i won't get bored such as past year (deep house music still fine in any bars 8)) & looking for more "underground" parties.
f.U.CK the Hype but i've seen ("vip"? Hotel pacha,el ayoun, club Jag) place where spanish djs i would like to see play there ...

If them were around these days and that was the reason everyone was going out we probs wouldn't be having this conversation :)

also I agree with what someone said about the deep house being rubbish these days I wouldn't go to a deep house night. I was just unfortunate enough to go to a night being recorded for radio 1s essential selection last year in sankeys. And to circo loco in high season a few weeks post 'Joey Essex' photo lol. Although admittedly the room wasnt very full when Carl Craig was on. See what I mean! Room to dance to Carl Craig but I bet it was rammed for whatever wet lettuce was on the terrace haha

I must say that I enjoy bottle service every now and then. Its nice to have the drinks the way you want them, and its not more expensive than buying seperate drinks (almost as entry are included) You have access to the regular dancefloor and a place to sit down for a second i you want. Very nice in crowded clubs when you have a small GF :) I see that there is some kind of sport to not like the djs or generes that is popular and only the "underground" is good enogh. If you play at the biggest clubs in the world you are not very "underground" to me
So maybe some of you should consider that it might be yourself that changes the atmosphere not for the better 8)

Yes I agree with last point which is why I was complaining that to get my techno fixes I have to go to Space pracatically every night. Ibiza is not a very underground place in all fairness, but the closest thing to underground type venues are Sankeys and DC10. Sankeys line-ups are lacking in the techno department. The concepts of VIP and underground are not one and the same thing they are poles apart and cannot be as one. None of the nights in Ibiza are underground at all.. but some use DJs which usually play at underground nights across Europe. Ibiza is just a different vibe, sun, beach parties, clubbing etc. I paid extra for VIP to take my daughters to Amnesia and I hated being away from the crowds. It was fab having the bar to myself though I will admit, but personally I'd rather queue for my drinks and be enjoying the music in amongst it all. I don't think people are slating people like you for doing VIP individually as such, it's just a difference in taste that people like myslef can't understand - same as you probably can't understand that I don't need to sit down very often, and I'm happy with a drink in a plastic cup. It is more the EXTENT to which VIP is taking over in that there are vast spaces for VIPs in some clubs which compromise dance floors. Ibiza was once attracting people for it's bohemian style but now it's the VIP thing which a lot of people want. Poles apart :)

Room to dance to Carl Craig but I bet it was rammed for whatever wet lettuce was on the terrace haha

Oh the irony ... seeing as he's one of the few DJs of that ilk who fails completely to make me want to dance ... on pretty much every occasion ! Sorry, but he joins Dubfire, Reboot, Dietz etc etc for yawn-fest of the year award.

In Ushuaia you'd need to wait in a queue for 10 minutes, longer if you're female. If they paid as much attention to toilet facilities to match their capacity as to maximising their VIP area, they'd be on to something...

The second time in a week i've agreed with every word you've said.
