Circo Loco - end of an era?

This has always been Ibiza's worst kept secret, but with the recent voting as greatest club and house night (ahem, cocoon, ahem) in mixmag, as well as the BBC Radio1 broadcast, does anyone feel this may lead to a wave of change?

Are we going to see a huge british invasion of badly dressed, badly co-ordinated try-hards who would have otherwise disappeared into manumission, proppping up the bars, waiting for the fabled superstar dj's to appear, secretly not understanding what all the fuss is about, hating the music, then going home and lying throught their teeth about how mad and amazing it was.

This is what I think will happen. My last visit there was the most amazing night of my life (anyone who was their on the 25th July, I was the man in black inside, which if you were there during the day, trust me, you'll remember ) but I do believe the place will take a bit of a nose-dive next year.

Flame me as much as you want - I am not being elitist in anyway, but the crowd s as important a part of the club as the music (no dj's don't matter) and this will definitely change next year.

Or am I being pessimistic, will the minimalist techy noises scare away all but the hard-core partiers? Food for thought.

You're projecting. This is in fact what you think. British media have been on Dc10 for years, and so far it has proved Mixmag & Radio 1 proof.

Wasn't it also your first visit?

I don't think it will take a dive next year to be honest. The bleepy tech noises will scare people off and also it's a daytime club which means you won't get the complete british yobs who'll all be asleep or not understanding the concept of dayclubbing

Projecting, yes. I can be pessimistic at the best of times, just airing my thoughts. Your prob right, increased exposure doesn't necessarilt mean a dilution in quality.

2nd visit that. Good memory! Both visits were the best nights of my life. Can't wait for the circo loco party in leeds.

If i'm not mistaken there was an essential mix from DC10 and Pete Tong likes to mention it

right, let me get this straight.

in order for a club to be good, nobody should know about it?

so f... if pete tong mentions it. he's a spokesperson for clubland, if he wasn't mentioning the hedonism at dc10 he wouldn't be doing his job right.

you're being pessimistic mate.

one of the things i dont like about ibiza, and clubland over here to some extent, is the elitism of it, the way people think they're "in the know" and then get all snobbish when good club nights get busier.

We've witnessed it with DC10, underground a little bit, and now back here with NastyDirty.

Lets face it, very very little people go to these places off the hook, without hearing something about it. DC10 would be nothing without word-of-mouth, the same goes for NDSM.

Its the way it is, if something is good, people say so, and then more people go. Thats life. If you get hung up on these things then you're gonna end up very bitter!

At the end of the day, the only people that make these places worse, is obviously the 15 strong lager and fight crowd (who dont really go to these places anyway) and the snobbish fools who think they have a divine right to look down on others just because "they've know about it for ages"

youve gotta remember, theres a first time for EVERYONE

well said toms

last year, people were talking about boycotting Ibiza and I was derided for saying they were muppets.

let the good times roll

People do this anyway. About a lot more than DC10. It's what keeps Ibiza going in many respects!

The cat was let out of this bag ages ago. Congrats to Mixmag who do their bandwagon jump about 3 years too late.

The music may not be to many tastes, but it's one of Ibiza's very few unique experiences, and I will always recommend anyone tries 6-close on the terrace (with pockets FULL of Davis, thrills etc) at least once in their lives. I hate the music on it's own, but as a cog in the atmosphere/experience that is DC10, then it's pretty much f**king spot on.

For the record, I think you're full of shit Tariq. 2nd visit indeed haha! Nice to see Dr Mick lay the smackdown!

What?!?! First of all you claim to be the worlds biggest DC10 fan, and want to avoid UK "try-hards" and then think that the "vibe" will transfer toeeds? Hahahahahahahahaha. Yeah mate I'm sure it will be EXACTLY the same as the Monday afternoon sessions!

Clearly "Bitten by the bug" and you lack of visits stands out like a sore thumb if you think that ANYONE remembers ANYTHING about DC10.

Haha, people walk in in f**king Superman outfits and no-one even batters an eyelid. To think that someone remembers "that crazy man in black" is quite frankly ludicrous.

You summarise nicely the worst of attitudes I encompass on the island, and you're so way off the mark you have no idea.

Please find somewhere else that's "cool" please, so you can be the first to pre-empt it's demise.

Close the door on your way out...

Eek (crawls back under rock)

I knew as soon as i posted this, it would be contentious.

I am going to shut up now, cos i can't see a way out of this without digging deeper.

Also for the record, I hardly ever do "smack". The correct medical term is diamorphine.

he first played there in 2001 (i think, may have been 2002) and was mentioning it back then.

it was also splattered across all the dance music magazines at that time as the best club in Ibiza

Most of the British clubbers you describe won't go to DC10 anyway for 3 reasons:

1. They'll be recovering from Judgement Sunday and another mighty Lisa Lashes set the night before.
2. They'll be saving themselves for Cream on the Thursday
3. Tiesto isn't playing.
