Just had our invites in for this year's Christmas party - the theme is Guys and Dolls :?

Any idea of what a gal like me could wear?! :?: 8O

I'm thinking flapper-esque 40's/50's boa's and dresses? Is that right? :D

Hi Bec, how are you? :D

I think it's set in late-1940s New York. Does this help? http://www.costumegallery.com/1940.htm There's a few pics on there. Looks like you better get your rollers out.

I'm going to see Guys and Dolls in December, with the dishy but vertically challenged Nigel Harman (I mean he's starring in it, he's not taking me on a date).

Becki - that is so much better than the crap theme they have chosen for one of our parties here. Ours is Peter Pan

There's quite a lot of 40s fashion around at the moment if I've got the right idea - high waists, pencil skirts, skinny belts etc.

Err, can't say I've seen many people out in green tights and feathered caps though Kang.

The theme for our Christmas party is so much more simple:

Wear a suit. Get as drunk as humanly possible without embarassing yourself.

doesn't sound so simple to me :?

I've never heard of a themed Christmas party before, besides seeing how much you can drink and how much of a tit you can make of yourself.

Yes, but considering everyone else is drunk too, and there's a big room full of people, you've got a pretty high threshold for embarassment.

Me neither.
My CHristmas party are always very boring: dinner in a fancy restaurant, the chairman makes a sad speach (my first year his speach started with a "this year we have nothing to celebrate"  ) then we get our present, then a couple of drinks and before 2am we are home :?

When I worked in the advertising agency the CHristmas party were great, with performances, lots of presents and then free tickets and drinks in a club :D

A few years ago, some staff suggested it might be "fun" to theme our Christmas Party and Wild Wild West was chosen as the theme - it was horrendous - I hate fancy dress with a passion so I refused to dress up (as the organiser that went down like a lead balloon) so I had to borrow my sisters leather trousers, wore a leather waistcoat and hired a set of guns and a stetson from a shop - and went as a Sheriff. It was pure carnage, some of the girls turned up in saloon girl outfits which left nowt to the imagination, much to the blokes in the company's surprise, most of these girls were suited up during work hours, really quiet and sensible - a change of outfit turned them into total party animals - it was absolutely mind blowing to see what they got up to......   ...

The best themed one I did - was Monaco Night, and that was really really good, we hired casino tables, Hollywood look a likes and the Williams BMW F1 sports car with the team models draped all over it..... apparently that was excellent (but I f**ked off to Ibiza instead of going.....    )

..... God I hate fancy dress..........
