The stage is too high, so you're craning your neck to see what's going on if you're on the lower level (ie, want to dance). The accoustics aren't very good and sound just travels upwards thus deminishing the atmosphere. There's hardly any seating downstairs, so you're left leaning by walls. The bar and cloakrooms are a nightmare and the upstairs part just doesn't feel like a proper club, more like a small room in the Phoenix Club.
So no, I'm not a fan! I went to one of the Slam nights a couple of years back and it was appalling (because of the reasons above, not because of the djs) and they conceeded that it wasn't going to work so haven't since done anything with the exception of the Richie Hawtin one-off about a year ago.
I really liked the fact that it was on a number of levels, so you could be off the main dancefloor area dancing and still see over the crowd.
Agreed, the sound wasnt the best (bit too quiet), but thought it still worked. I thought the bars were ok, I seemed to get served really quickly anyway. Have to agree with the cloakroom though!!
